THE POWER OF KNOWING

John 1:32-34

Then John testified, “I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him.

I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

I saw this happen to Jesus, so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.”

Yesterday we looked at the topic "Do you know who you are?". We saw the fulfilment of purpose for someone like John the Baptist in fulfilling his purpose as the fore-runner of Christ. Thus we asked ourselves what our purpose was, and if we were fulfilling it.

We see John announcing the Messiah, this was to be his greatest achievement though if we read through we see him trying to reach out to other things so much that he even sent to ask Christ if he was the one. (We will look at that some other time)

This morning we want to see the power of knowing. 

John explained that he did not know who Christ was by just seeing Him in the flesh, however there were specific instructions from God to help Him dicepher the Messiah:

John 1:30-31

He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’

I did not recognize him as the Messiah, but I have been baptizing with water so that he might be revealed to Israel.”

(Also read 2Cor. 5:16)

One great danger of supposed believers for time and even now, the rush for the spectacular would make you miss the divine. (Let me ask, that person you were running after because you heard of one miracle or spectacular thing they have done are you still running there or you have moved from one to the other? Pause, Think!)

John 1:33-34

Every believer must have their special relationship with the Heavenly Father and this can only be in Christ Jesus. That we are not carried away:

Ephesians 4:14

Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.

I was speaking to the ushering group many years ago and I told them that the greatest gift they should desire is that of discernment, of course since they are the first contact of those who come into fellowship, they are the first reach out, thus, if they could discern the situation of that person walking in, they already have that soul saved or nourished at entry point.

The same for all believers, we must be able to discern that we may never confuse God's voice with that of another. We must know if this is of the Lord, this is my own thoughts or if it is from the enemy.

The power of knowing is the secret of victory.

That is why we put out trust in the Lord for He is the one that knows the end from the beginning.

Isaiah 46:9-10

Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me.

Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. 

Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.

DO YOU KNOW GOD LIKE THIS!

This is what Christ came to do, the washing with water(baptism was to clear your eyes to see Him - water here is an outside symbol, the representation is "the word") John 15:3.

Now when You now encounter Him because you can see John 3:3, He teaches You, depositing the Holy Spirit in you. Now that is the power of knowing, you can then talk of entering the kingdom. John 3:5.

Every believer must pass this process, for the must live a life here on earth. Knowing comes by being made a member of the family. It is your relationship that gives you the right to know. Selah - Genesis 18:17.

So people of God and to be people of God, we need to continue in fellowship with Christ for only then can we have the power of knowing. Get this, we are talking of the One who can change the times and seasons. The one who can work everything for His purpose. For while the enemy saw the things playing out, he did not know the purpose so he worked to even bring it to pass by his evil deeds.

That person you think is working against you, the situation you think is working against your favour, that economy, that delay etc. Listen when You walk with the all knowing God. He turns all to your favour. Listen to Joseph:

Genesis 50:20

You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.

Listen there is nothing like being on the side of the all knowing God, you may NOT know it exactly but because you follow, people will see that you knew all along.(understand the twist)

So help us Good Lord.
