WALKING IN HIS LIGHT IS WALKING IN LOVE

1 John 2:7

Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before.

No one can talk of walking in the light if they are not walking in love. Jesus said that the commandments are summarized thus:

Matthew 22:37-40

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’

This is the first and greatest commandment.

A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

So if you are practicing anything that is contradictory to this, you are definitely in the wrong path!

When you come to Christ you come to light, darkness is removed and light comes in:

1 John 2:8

Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.

For Jesus said:

John 8:12

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

This truth must stay in our hearts for it is ignorance that makes a man wallow in hunger when there is abundance of food.

John 1:4-5,9-10

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him.

So Christ is light and He illuminates all that come to Him. If we are in His light we cannot hate a brother or sister. For love is the reflection of our light.

1 John 2:9-11

If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness.

Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble.

But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.

If you hate it implies that you have been blinded in darkness and do not walk in the light. As we read yesterday using Cain as a case study, when love is not reigning, evil (darkness) takes over.

So child of God, we are no longer in darkness, we are of light in Christ Jesus, let us walk in this light, let us walk in love, that we may be true children of the Heavenly Father.

It could be a thin line between love and hate if we do not walk carefully, and if it is left uncheck it corrupts a whole community. That is how things like racism, tribalism and stigmatisation originated.

Hebrews 12:15

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.

The Lord bless and keep us in His light, love will reign and wisdom will prevail.

Help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.

Love
