LOVE IS EXPRESSED

1 John 3:23

And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us.

When Christ said that if we love Him we should keep His commandments, many think of the many laws and practices listed in the old testament. However when Christ gave the sermon at the mount as recorded in Matthew chapter five, He gave us the real explanation of the laws. 

We see how difficult it is to be perfected by the law. He thus gave us the power behind it, the law is summarized by love. Selah

So John explains to us what Christ meant by the commandments:

1 John 3:23

And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us.

For Christ is the word and love is His nature.

When we talk of love, it is expressed, that is why it is relative to obedience. Our Heavenly Father who is love, showed His love for us by expression/action:

1 John 3:16

We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.

John 3:16

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

We see that love must be expressed, we don't just love by saying it, we express it by our actions:

1 John 3:17-18

If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?

Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.

Do you love? How have you expressed it?

The best expression of love, is to introduce love to others, this we do by bringing them to Christ. For we want them to live a fulfilled life and also to have eternal life.

We love by giving. At different times brethren have divers needs, it is not only tangible need, some need good counsel or advice, some need healing, some seek companionships and definitely all need edification. Generally many need tangible help.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
