LOOKING FROM THE OTHER SIDE
Matthew 7:12
“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
One of the greatest ill we see in the world today is that character of humans that makes them do to people what they cannot take themselves. You don't like being treated this way or that way, yet you are quick to treat others the same way. Is that not an irony?
Definitely there are people that need to be cautioned again and again yet are we ready to be cautioned when we also err? Or do we see it as persecution?
I asked some teachers some time ago, who witnessed a child being flogged for a minor err, if they could also be ready to take the strokes that they were meting out.
You know it is so easy to stand as a judge, to see the errors of others. However, wisdom is to see your errors and correct them.
You are laughing at someone who failed at their job after working for fifteen years, yet you have just worked a few years, do you know how yours will end? We really need wisdom.
Let us look at one of the favourite verses of Christ, though many have misinterpreted it again and again:
Matthew 7:1-5
“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.
For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.
“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?
How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?
Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.
Why is the nation in such a mess? Definitely because we refuse to tell the truth, firstly to ourselves then seeking for help.
We live in times when people try so hard to exonerate themselves from the mess they have created. In pointing fingers at others they make redemption almost impossible, for how can you be helped when you claim you have no wrong?
The security, economy, unity and all important aspects of the nation is collapsing yet those that ought to lead wake up each day living a mirage, holding unto denial. That is the dilemma of countries like Nigeria.
Now, let us come to ourselves, are we not doing the same, is the problem not always from within?
We are so quick to label others, we laugh at them when things don't seem to work for them, if they fail at their jobs, marriage, raising their children, business or they have an ailment. We forget that every one has a phase and we will also pass through the same phase.
See, you who is making it difficult for your boss or leader today will eventually become one some day, what do you think will be your situation? You as a child giving your parents headache today will definitely become a parent in time to come, what do you expect to face? You that inlaw giving your in-laws a hard time remember that you will also face that situation soon. You labeling your in-laws as evil and talking bad about them remember that you will also be repositioned too. (People call it karma, however Christ has warned us in Matthew 7:12)
That slogan "God forbid", have made many forget their own responsibilities and become people with entitlement. Who told you, you have a say in that other person's matter? WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU KNOW ABOUT IT?
Most of the things we talk and gossip about, we really have no clue about.
That colleague in the office you are mocking because of their challenge, may be there for you to bless one way or the other.
CAN GOD TRUST YOU WITH ANYTHING!!!
As believers we must be matured, growth is a necessity, we canNOT remain babies drinking milk all our lives, it is an anomaly.
Hebrews 5:12-14
You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.
For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right.
Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
How much do you pray? When there are challenges do you pray first then walk with instructions or do you merely, cry, complain or become vindictive. We all need to grow up.
It is time we begin from the inside to get things right, don't think you are the perfect one, keep getting better by the day.
Philippians 3:12-15
I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,
I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.
Let us do away with all these childish attitudes, let us grow into maturity as we allow the love and knowledge of the Heavenly Father grow in our hearts. Never forget that it is only the Son that reveals the Father. His light will shine into our hearts.
We will be a testimony, true mother's and father's, we will be called blessed. Many will become great and better people because of us.
So help us Good Lord.
All is well with us and ours.
He calls us blessed.
Love
