HIS PROMISES: ANGELS WORK FOR OUR GOOD
Psalms 91:12
They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
We looked at the ministry of Angels yesterday, we understand that the Heavenly Father sends them on assignment concerning us:
Psalms 91:11
For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.
Their protection includes saving us from making mistakes, getting into danger or unforseen evils.
Just like we see in the fiction movie "superman", the angels have extra-human abilities here on earth, for the earth is a lesser planet/territory.
We see their actions in scriptures:
In Genesis 19, they had already instructed Lot to flee Sodom and Gomorrah with his family, however Lot was hesitant, he was slow, so the Angel had to help them out:
Genesis 19:15-16
At dawn the next morning the angels became insistent. “Hurry,” they said to Lot. “Take your wife and your two daughters who are here. Get out right now, or you will be swept away in the destruction of the city!”
When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the lord was merciful.
Most of the battles the children of Israel won had the presence of waring angels in their favour.
Joshua 5:13-15
When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded, “Are you friend or foe?”
“Neither one,” he replied. “I am the commander of the lord’s army.”At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence. “I am at your command,” Joshua said. “What do you want your servant to do?”
The commander of the lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did as he was told.
Many examples of angels working for us abound in the old testament such as the closing of the mouth of lions to protect Daniel and even the saving of his three friends from the burning furnace.
In the new testament we also see Angels on assignment an example is saving Peter from prison.
Yesterday we noted that angels receive their instructions from the Heavenly Father.
Today we have a caution: Yes, we know the Lord has sent angels to protect us but we must not test God.
A disastrous event happened at a zoo in Ibadan where an evangelist sneaked into a lion's den to renact the deliverance of Daniel. Of course he was eventually devoured.
Listen Jesus gave us the perfect example.
The enemy came tempting him:
Matthew 4:5-6
Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say,
‘He will order his angels to protect you.
And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’”
Can you see the enemy quoting Psalm 91:11-12.
Jesus replied him:
Matthew 4:7
Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’”
We must be careful, that is why study of scriptures is for every believer, we cannot just live or act anyhow.
I told the children last night. Yes the Lord has sent His angels to protect you, you do not then go to dangerous places, move around at night or take unnecessary risks. That is trying to test God and the consequences can be lethal.
Same way He said He will protect us from deadly disease. This does not then give us liberty to eat poisonous substances or practice unhealthy habits.
WE MUST NOT TEST GOD.
May the Lord grant us more understanding as we continue to enjoy the benefits of His promises. Glory to His name forever.
He calls us blessed.
Love
