LIVING IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME

Luke 22:19

He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”

1 Corinthians 11:25c

Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.”

The communion is a well known practice of Christianity in almost all denomination. I remember that I can recite almost all part of the eucharist, I really did enjoy doing that by heart during the communion part of the church service (even up till today).

. . . do this as often as you drink it in rememberance of me . . .

So many now practice the communion as a ritual, that makes you pure, some orthodox churches even make a mandate such that if you are not a communicant you do not have a place in God's kingdom, for they do not see you as a member of the church.

Wait:

Is it the bread or the wine that is the issue? No. It is a symbol signifying the death of Christ, His body was sacrificed for our redemption and His blood shared for the redemption of our sins. No bread/wafer or wine/juice can replace it! Selah

Why did Jesus command that we do the communion?

Matthew 26:26-30

As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take this and eat it, for this is my body.”

And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it,

for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.

Mark my words—I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father’s Kingdom.”

Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.

and

Luke 22:14-20

When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table.

Jesus said, “I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins.

For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.”

Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves.

For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.”

He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”

After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.

Can we see the key, it was the new Passover, and the fulfilment was in the death of Christ and His resurrection. Christ said He will not take it with his disciples(us) until it's meaning is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

Let us get this, why do we take it often?

Now listen to Paul, He gives us the full instruction:

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”

In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.”

For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.

It is clearer here,

. . .  we announce the death of Christ till He comes again;

. . . do this in rememberance of me

So there is something special about the communicant. Not that the bread and wine he/she takes makes Him special (though there is a spiritual activity in it, for you declare a covenant, Paul even implied that healing is attached to it if done rightly, for he talked of ailments attached to taking it wrongly) . . .

1 Corinthians 11:27-31

So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup.

For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself.

That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died.

But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way.

Now let us understand this, the communion is a ritual that reminds us of what Christ did for us and also for us to declare same to the world.

So, as a communicant you take it and go out into the world to live the life of the new covenant you have in Christ Jesus.

You canNOT join in celebrating the body and blood of Christ then go out to live another kind of life. No, you live the life of the Spirit of whom you celebrated in Christ Jesus.

This teachings must be made right and taught properly in our gatherings. We are tired of having supposed believers polluting the society instead of being the ones shining the light. We have thousands gathered under the name of a denomination in Christ's name, yet the society they live in is not impacted positively by them.

Scriptures recorded 300 under the power of the Spirit and they turned their world around.

What is the essence of being an eucharist when those who are yet to believe are the ones correcting you of your bad behaviour, evil means and wicked acts.

Enough of all this static positional claims. If we have faith it must be active not docile. That is why James taught:

James 2:26

Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.

So if we are part of the body of Christ, we must show forth His light in our daily lives. It doesn't matter what title you bear, only the people on earth here are concerned about it, it doesn't matter in the heavens.

Luke 6:46

“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?

Let me ask a rhetorical question?

Is Christ Lord of your life or are you Lord of some people's lives?

You could just be in a dangerous situation!

Lord help us to always put You in rememberance, not the church, not any human dead or alive, not any other being. That our lifestyle will please you at all times.

Help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.
