GOOD LEADERSHIP - TEACH, TRAIN, MENTOR and IMPART
Matthew 5:1-2
One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them.
One of the most important part of leadership is teaching/training. It is not just enough to watch/observe it is necessary to receive instructions and to ask questions so as to receive answers.
Assumption has led a lot of people to stay stereotype to things they do not understand and in trying to keep an assumed sacred knowledge to self we may cause people to err when they give wrong interpretation to actions.
This is why I love the new testament scriptures, looking through the gospels we see that we receive knowledge from answers given to questions:
Mark 4:10
Later, when Jesus was alone with the twelve disciples and with the others who were gathered around, they asked him what the parables meant.
Mark 13:3-4
Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives across the valley from the Temple. Peter, James, John, and Andrew came to him privately and asked him,
“Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to be fulfilled?”
Matthew 22:23
That same day Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question:
The questions came from those who wanted to know, while some came from those who wanted to find faults from him or criticize him. They always were awed by His answers.
Mark 12:28
One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
Many parents have left their children clueless to certain things either because they have not taken time to teach them the right path or have not given answers to their questions. (Can you teach what you do not know?)
Why blame a child for taking a wrong decision when you never gave them the blueprint?
Just as it is expected that every follower be teachable, the leader must be a good teacher with the right information.
As we go on this year let us determine to impart the right knowledge to those under our leadership.
2 Timothy 2:24
A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people.
I talked with an elder in a remote area last year and he was all about how the youth of the present generation were not living up to expectation, how they are lazy, entrapped by mobile phones, vain tv programmes etc.
Well, I pointed out to him that the next generation is a function of what the generation before them imparted on them. I went on to say that the generation coming after mine will be influenced by how much I impart on them. Therefore the blame should actually be on us for not watching out and imparting positively on the generation after us. Furthermore, who sponsors and censors all these things, have the elders helped at all?
Where is true mentorship?
Why do we have older generation who ought to be retired and resting as presidents, in America and Africa alike. They ought to be resting giving counsel as elder statemen!
Who really is to blame?
One point to note is that elders have refused to humble themselves to accountability, this has not helped the younger generation. We must teach those we lead the importance of integrity, accountability, faithfulness and commitment.
When they read about us in the media, is the report good? Do they read of our faithfulness or about how we are unable to account for this or that. Do they read about our shameful deeds? What example are we giving?
Hello spiritual leaders with your beautiful and decorative titles, who are you mentoring? What are you teaching them? What examples are you leaving for them?
I questioned a very senior minister of God when he was being interviewed by another great minister of God on social media. I asked what they have been teaching their disciples that makes them think just about money and earthly things. Seems our sermons make people rush out into the world to accumulate wealth not minding by what means and the damage they cause to others and the name of Christ.
It is really a terrible situation, we have seen so many clowns, tricksters, entertainers and mentally unstable people troop out as ministers of God. It is really disgusting.
Let us learn from Christ:
John 17:4,6-8
I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
“I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.
When it is time to leave the scene, can we say the same?
It is not late to take the right steps.
Decide to lead right this year.
So help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
Love
