YOU MUST BEAR FRUIT

John 15:2

He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.

This is a very important reminder as we go through the last four days of this year. The Lord expects us to bear fruit. Yes, our Heavenly Father is a good investor.

Let us start from creation:

Genesis 1:22,28

Then God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.”

Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”

The Lord blessed His creation and commanded them to multiply!

It is very important that we understand this so that we are on the right side of the Lord. In Matthew chapter 24 & 25, the Lord explains to us with various parables the requirements to enjoy eternal Bliss with the Lord. One of them was the parable of the talents:

Matthew 25:14-15

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone.

He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.

This is the situation of every human, no person is left empty, everyone is blessed with a talent or a gift.

Now what are we to do with it? We are to make profit, that is by bearing fruit.

Matthew 25:16-17

“The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more.

The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more.

It is very important to know this, no lazy person is favourable in the kingdom of God, it is not condoned! You don't play smart, NO, that is foolishness.

Matthew 25:18

But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.

Get this right, you do not play smart. You don't lay around idle while others do the Lord's work. We are called labourers in the vineyard because we actually are, we work not laying about taking advantage of others. See, the fact that you are the leader means you even work more than others.

Leadership In the Lord's kingdom is different:

Luke 22:24-27

Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them.

Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’

But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.

Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.

This is a very important aspect of christian leadership.

So, every believer is expected to bear fruit, even in the secular world, your talents and gifts are for the betterment of mankind, what use is the great intelligence you have if you counsel no one or solve problems? What use is that wealth you are acquiring if you do not help out those in need or the less privileged.

1 Corinthians 4:7

For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?

So, everything giving to you is for you to profit therewith, waste is not allowed and dormancy is not rewarded, for as you bear fruit you will be pruned to bear more fruit, but if you refuse to bear fruit you are cut out:

Matthew 25:21,29-30

“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.

Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

As we end the year reflect on how much profit you have made, did you bear fruit? The answer should drive you to do better in the coming year.

We are made by default to multiply.

So help us Good Lord.

He calls us blessed.
