THAT THEY MAY NOT BE OFFENDED
Acts 16:2-3
Timothy was well thought of by the believers in Lystra and Iconium, so Paul wanted him to join them on their journey. In deference to the Jews of the area, he arranged for Timothy to be circumcised before they left, for everyone knew that his father was a Greek.
There are things that are not essential but become necessary to silence opposers who in this case could be the religious folks. Paul had to circumcise Timothy that the Jewish community who knew his father to be Greek would have nothing to say. Has the circumcision made him a better believer, NO!
Galatians 5:2,6
Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ will be of no benefit to you.
For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.
But that they may have nothing to say, somethings are done:
Matthew 17:24-27
On their arrival in Capernaum, the collectors of the Temple tax came to Peter and asked him, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the Temple tax?”
“Yes, he does,” Peter replied. Then he went into the house. But before he had a chance to speak, Jesus asked him, “What do you think, Peter? Do kings tax their own people or the people they have conquered?”
“They tax the people they have conquered,” Peter replied.“Well, then,” Jesus said, “the citizens are free!
However, we don’t want to offend them, so go down to the lake and throw in a line. Open the mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find a large silver coin. Take it and pay the tax for both of us.”
So we see that there are things we do so as not to offend. We do know that they are not necessary and not commanded by God, howbeit since it is not sinful we do it that they may not be offended.
Religion poses so many unnecessary things on people, it is wisdom for the believer to understand what God wants and make sure that they do it. For in the end we serve the Heavenly Father through Christ, we will account BUT not to any man dead or alive, we account to Christ Jesus.
Romans 14:12
Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.
2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.
Wisdom is released to all who seek today.
Glory to the Heavenly Father.
He calls us blessed.
