THE PURPOSE
Acts 8:4-5
But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went.
Philip, for example, went to the city of Samaria and told the people there about the Messiah.
Knowing the purpose of a thing, the goal of a cause and the reason for a mission, will ensure that one focuses and eventually wins. Yesterday we saw that even persecution cannot stop God's purpose, instead it will be the instrument to bring it to pass.
Our opening verses shows us the effect of the persecution of the early believers. The word of God was preached from place to place, as the journeyed they preached thus the mandate was being fullfiled.
Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Today the word has almost reached the ends of the earth, do we have a new mandate? Do we have a new purpose?
No.
For the whole purpose of salvation is not limited to our 120 years spent on earth but on the eternal life. So the purpose is to bring all to Him and keep them faithful until the last day. (The last day is when Christ returns or when we leave this earth)
Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
So we preach to sinners, disciple those who have believed and edify the brethren, this is our work as believers:
2 Corinthians 12:19b
No, we tell you this as Christ’s servants, and with God as our witness. Everything we do, dear friends, is to strengthen you.
So that the believer will live as light to the world, fellowshipping and helping one another, praising God thus fulfilling purpose.
There is life on the earth, we work and transact business just as God created it. Everything yet working out the one purpose.
The problem comes when believers forget the purpose and get carried away with love of money, unhealthy competitions, lust of the flesh and the lies of the enemy.
These Paul warned against when he left the church at Corinth for a while:
2 Corinthians 12:20-21
For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior.
Yes, I am afraid that when I come again, God will humble me in your presence. And I will be grieved because many of you have not given up your old sins. You have not repented of your impurity, sexual immorality, and eagerness for lustful pleasure.
No matter what our endeavours are, no matter the work we do, the business we transact or even the position we occupy, we must never loose sight of the purpose. In or out of the church. NEVER.
At the end of the race we should be able to say like Paul:
2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.
So help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
Love
@the watcher.
