THE ESSENCE OF MIRACLES

Acts 9:32-35

Meanwhile, Peter traveled from place to place, and he came down to visit the believers in the town of Lydda.

There he met a man named Aeneas, who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years.

Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, and roll up your sleeping mat!” And he was healed instantly.

Then the whole population of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas walking around, and they turned to the Lord.

The essence of miracles is for those who do not believe to believe: Jesus said

John 10:38

But if I do his work, believe in the evidence of the miraculous works I have done, even if you don’t believe me. Then you will know and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.”

The reason is that they do not believe, why, the carnal mind. However the experience with the supernatural or rightly the divine would prick the heart to steer up faith.

For the believer miracles should be an every day event, for the power of God, His Spirit dwells in us. I once casually talking to some colleagues a time ago, I told them that the reason we do not experience or release miracles as those of old is simply because of our carnality.

So Peter by the power of Jesus the Christ cured a man who has been paralysed and bedridden for eight years. That was not enough he further went ahead to raise a lady who was already dead and washed for burial.

We have the same power today (though many doubt it). The question is, to what end.

Acts 9:35

Then the whole population of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas walking around, and they turned to the Lord.

Acts 9:41-42

He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then he called in the widows and all the believers, and he presented her to them alive.

The news spread through the whole town, and many believed in the Lord.

The problem with most of us who are believers today, is motive.

Listen again:

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Even from the time of the old covenant, miracles were meant to draw people to the Living God, Naman 2Kings 5:20-27.

So, what is our motive, are we in the Lord's agenda and purpose? Then we are also miracle workers. Glory to God.

What of personal miracles?

It is ours already for God works in us, so we have authority to speak His promises over us, from healing by His stripes, to long life which He promised to satisfy us with, even excellence. Glory to God.

John 15:7

But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!

See it is the Heavenly Father doing the work by His Word, Jesus the Christ, we are the instrument.

Our work is well defined:

2 Corinthians 5:19-21

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.

So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

Glory to God.

We live a miraculous life.

He calls us blessed.

Love
