TEMPTING GOD
Acts 12:23
Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.
When you read the account of what happened to King Herod in Acts 13:20-23, you then understand this verse:
Hebrews 10:31
It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Yesterday we talked about the ministry of angels, remember they are God's servants having various duties, the scope of their operations is endless:
Let us look at some references:
Daniel 6:22a
My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me
2Samuel 24:16
And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.
Thus we see that what happened to Herod was coming to him, he thought that as he had dealt treaserously with God's children he was free, but he was already on heavens watch list, just a little falter, he dared receive glory, then the angel stricked, what a death, to be eaten by worms while still alive.
A lesson to all tyrants oppressing and cheating the people, a lesson to all who persecute God's people. Just that humans seems not to learn:
Isaiah 33:1
Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou [wast] not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; [and] when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.
For he did it for fun, killing James then reached out to arrest Peter, did he think it will just pass.
Remember king Sennacherib, after his army was destroyed, he thought he had escaped:
2Kings 19:36-37
So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
A woe to all tyrants out there, no matter their capacity or the authority they sit on, that cause pain, tears or hardship to God's children, their time is up, judgement is coming to them. It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.
You that the Lord has blessed, or the Lord is about to manifest His blessing on. Your blessings is for good and not evil, don't get carried away, always do what is right don't oppress others. Remember that we all answer to the Living God.
Are you oppressed, keep faithful, keep being good, your vindication is here.
May we always be on the Right Side of the Heavenly Father. He will fight for us.
He calls us blessed.
