THE NEW COVENANT
Hebrews 8:10-11
But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the Lord:
I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts.
I will be their God, and they will be my people.
And they will not need to teach their neighbors, nor will they need to teach their relatives, saying, ‘You should know the Lord.’
For everyone, from the least to the greatest, will know me already.
We cannot overemphasize what the Lord has done for us. When we study the law and it's requirements we begin to appreciate the liberation we have in Christ Jesus.
Luke 4:18
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free
Let us look at some differences between the old and new covenant:
* The old covenant brought death, while the new one brought life. 2 Corinthians 3:6
* The old covenant enslaves while the new covenant sets free. Galatians 5:1, John 8:32-36)
* The old covenant leaves man imperfect while the new covenant leaves man perfect. Hebrews 7:19
* The old covenant exposes sin (Galatians 3:19) while the new covenant covers sin (Romans 4:1-8)
* The old covenant brings a curse (Galatians 3:10) while the new covenant redeems from curse (Galatians 3:13)
* The old covenant was abolished while the new covenant is in force (Ephesians :2:15)
* In the old covenant, living is by works while in the new covenant living is by faith (Galatians 3:10-11)
* The old covenant is a shadow (Colossians 2:14-17) while the new covenant is the reality (Hebrews 10:1-18)
* The old covenant is a covered glory while the new covenant is glory uncovered (2 Corinthians 3:13)
* The old covenant had many high priests (Hebrews 7:23) while the new covenant has only one high priest (Jesus Christ) (Hebrews 7:24-28)
* In the old covenant, remembrance of sin was done yearly while in the new covenant, forgiveness and washing away of sin was done once and for all
The list goes on and on!
Who would have liberty but say that they will remain in bondage, who will have life and say they prefer death?
Many things and some people consciously and unconsciously work to put believers in bondage again.
Galatians 4:9, 5:1
So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world?
So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
Let us remember, the liberty does not lead us to SIN, but brought us out of sin. The liberty did not make us less committed to the Heavenly Father but empowered us to be perfectly committed to Him.
We must not repeat the mistakes of those who lived in the old testament.
Mark 7:7
Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’
We must live the new life we have in the new covenant:
Ephesians 4:21-24,32
Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.
Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.
Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
*No new wine in an old bottle*
So help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
Love
