OUR ONLY PRIEST

Hebrews 7:23-25

There were many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office.

But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever.

Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.

There is a need for an interceder between God and man, the one who presents the requests of the people before the Heavenly Father and the one who performs the ritual for the cleansing from sin. In the old testament(before Christ resurrected) they were the human high priests, they had to offer for themselves, for they were imperfect, it is after this that they offered for the people.

However when He resurrected, Christ took care of it all:

Hebrews 7:26-27

He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.

Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins.

We get this right, the law appointed high priests who were limited by human weakness but after the law the Heavenly Father gave us His son by oath to become the perfect high priest.

Hebrews 7:28

The law appointed high priests who were limited by human weakness. But after the law was given, God appointed his Son with an oath, and his Son has been made the perfect High Priest forever.

Mark 1:11

And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

For Christ came and put an end to earthly priesthood, He became the Perfect High Priest in so doing made all His own royal priests.

1 Peter 2:9

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Glory to God.

This is why He said that we do NOT need to go to the mountain in Samaria or the temple in Jerusalem:

John 4:21,23-24

Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.

For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

For He is the perfect High priest, He stands in the presence of God for us thus:

Matthew 18:20

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Glory to God.

So we lift our hands in worship, great I Am, for what You have done. You were, you are and you shall ever be, blessed is your name forever.

He calls us blessed.

Love
