WHY HE SUFFERED
Matthew 27:27-31
Some of the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into their headquarters and called out the entire regiment.
They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him.
They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!”
And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and struck him on the head with it.
When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.
A whole regiment! On one man!
What are they trained for? To kill and torture, they ought to fight with other trained men. Yet a regiment came to deal with one man, imagine the pain, the inhumanity, the torment on one man. (Note: A regiment consist of battalions)
Why was all these necessary?
Isaiah 53:3-5
He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.
We turned our backs on him and looked the other way.
He was despised, and we did not care.
Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!
But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
IT WAS ALL FOR US!
The question then is, "What are we going to do about it?"
. . . Some say, "this is not true, history does not prove it bla bla bla". The question remains what do you have to lose if it is not true? Contrast to the disaster that will ensure if it is true and you did nothing about it. . .
Everything about the Heavenly Father is built on faith. That is why the bible says that without faith we cannot please God. Truly so, every success in this life from inventions, to political heights, to all known exploits, it all begins with faith. That tells us the essence of faith. For faith sees what the physical cannot see, because it does not allow the present absence to block the future present.. . check!
Luke 18:8
I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”
2 Corinthians 5:7
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
Galatians 3:26
For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
This makes us understand when Christ taught us that with God all things are possible.
So the whole of the suffering(s) was for us, that we may become God's own again. The angels and the powers that be wonder why God would care about man, why worry about saving man at all. Christ explains to us that it is all about love. John 3:16, Romans 5:8.
"NOW THAT WE HAVE LOVE, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH IT?"
The gospel of Christ is for our salvation, and when we are saved we let others know about it too. It is not just crying when we think about what He suffered (many movies have been made in attempt to show us what He suffered, but they cannot suffice). We live our faith. Glory to God.
What matters is what we do about it.
Help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
Love
