COMMUNION

Matthew 26:27-28

And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.

There are quite a few things Christ instructed that we should do in remembrance of Him, one of them is the communion. It is not about the eating of the bread or the drinking of the wine but the significance of the sacrifice. For you can take the communion all you can but if you have not received the new birth and walk in obedience to His word, you drink to condemnation.

Remember that Judas also sat at the table. Selah

Luke 22:19

He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”

The communion is the new passover, for the same way the blood at the door post(which was a sign of later deliverance to come) signified that those in the house were immune to the assault of the angel of death, so also the blood of Christ was shed to save many.

The communion is a spiritual exercise announcing the death of Christ and it's significance till Christ comes:

1 Corinthians 11:26-30

For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.

So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup.

For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself.

That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died.

Is it a ritual done only in a particular place by a designated priest, pastor or anointed one etc?

No.

It is available to believers who come in the name of the Lord. Remember:

Matthew 18:20

For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

How did the first apostles and disciples celebrate the eucharist?

Acts 2:46

They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—

Homes, house to house, truly the coming of the Christian faith as a religion by the secular powers of old did bring a sort of order, or do we say format, however it also came with a lot of traditions of men, myths and secularism. So many have been bound in fear with the wrong teachings while the very significant spiritual truth of the christian living have been either diluted or removed.

The word of God is available for everyone to read and the Spirit of God is released to all who believe and ask, that we do not remain in the slavery of ignorance or "my leader says" mentality. For,

2 Timothy 2:15

Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.

In all our doings we must never forget who we serve, it is the Lord Christ, the only Master. Neither do we forget who He revealed, the Heavenly Father, the only Father. For we walk in faith and live by obedience. Matthew 23:8-10.

So as we continue to eat the bread and drink the wine in communion, we do it remembering what Christ sacrificed for us and for many, being reminded of what He demands from us, love, that we may reach out to those who are still lost and continue in obedience.

We will not be found wanting. We enjoy true fellowship. Aside fellowshipping with other believers, Do you have an alter in your home? Remember "when two or three are gathered", you have a quorum thus worship, pray and study the word. The Lord is there with you

He calls us blessed.
