BE READY
Matthew 25:10,13
“But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked.
“So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.
Can we remember opportunities we have missed? When we look back at our journey through life, we would recollect opportunities that came our way that we did not utilized fully or we outrightly missed. Some could be so significant that we wish we could turn back the hands of time. It could be concerning our career, acquiring of skills, education, marriage or even about job opportunities.
One of my Sunday school teachers in a later meeting said: "I am what I am today because of what I did or did not do yesterday", I further go ahead to add that "I will be what I am tomorrow because of what I did or did not do today".
For a pastor said some time ago "Favour = Opportunity + preparedness".
For there are opportunities missed that are as a result of not being prepared.
Some of these opportunities we can get back, one reason is because other opportunities could come up, another is we can follow a different path.
However, there are also opportunities that do not show up again, we cannot afford to miss them. One of them is marriage. We ought to do this only once, so we must get it right the first time.
Our reading for today tells us of an opportunity that we cannot afford to miss at all. The wedding feast of the lamb. The kingdom of God is an opportunity we cannot afford to be unprepared for.
Read through that parable again, it is not that they were not all eligible, they were. It was not that they were not virgins (it could mean born again/washed by the blood we cannot tell), they were. There was just one difference:
Five were foolish, five were wise!
Ephesians 5:15-16
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.
Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.
As we enter a new day, new week, new month or a new year, we are presented with new and renewed opportunities, let us make the most of them. See, one thing the Spirit of the Heavenly Father helps us with is to identify the right action to take at every point in time.
We must be wise:
James 1:5
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
There is just one opportunity we cannot afford to miss, that is to be ready when the Lord shall call. Help us Good Lord. For there will be no second chance. Whether we are still here when He returns or we have slept, we must be prepared. Selah.
Dear Lord keep us prepared, help us to have our lamps always full with extra oil and our garments clean. Where you are Dear Lord is where we will also be. Halleluyah.
He calls us blessed.
Love
