MANY ARE CALLED, FEW ARE CHOSEN
Matthew 22:8-9,14
And he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren’t worthy of the honor.
Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.’
“For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Read through Matthew 22:1-14.
We see Christ with yet another parable about the kingdom of God. Firstly those who were honoured to be the first fruits of salvation - "the Jews", rejected the invitation. Others received the invitation after their rebellion.
John 4:22
You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews.
The religious leaders and teachers who came from the lineage of Israel had derailed, just as the parable described they had left the invitation to the banquet for one excuse or another, some rejected, maltreated and killed some of the messengers(prophets) sent to them, John the Baptist being the last on the list.
Romans 9:4
They are the people of Israel, chosen to be God’s adopted children. God revealed his glory to them. He made covenants with them and gave them his law. He gave them the privilege of worshiping him and receiving his wonderful promises.
Thus when the message of salvation came, the very Word of God, Christ Jesus was revealed, they rejected Him.
Romans 9:30-32
What does all this mean? Even though the Gentiles were not trying to follow God’s standards, they were made right with God. And it was by faith that this took place.
But the people of Israel, who tried so hard to get right with God by keeping the law, never succeeded.
Why not? Because they were trying to get right with God by keeping the law instead of by trusting in him. They stumbled over the great rock in their path.
In their unbelieve others(gentiles) received the right to be called children of God, for the true sons of Abraham are those that walk in his step and that is FAITH.
Romans 10:3-4
For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law.
For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.
Look at the last part of the parable. We received this free gift of salvation (invitation to the wedding feast) we cannot afford to live anyhow, our garment must be on and should remain spotless.
Matthew 22:11-13
“But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding.
‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply.
Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
We are reminded of the parable of the virgins. . .
We must not take our salvation for granted because. . .
Matthew 22:14
“For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Dear Father I must be part of the chosen ones, I have no other alternative I submit to your Lordship and walk in obedience. My garment will be right and remain spotless.
IT IS SO GREAT A PRIVILEGE, WE WILL NOT TAKE IT FOR GRANTED.
Revelation 7:9
After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands.
Help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
Love
