DIVORCE
Matthew 19:3,8-9
Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question: “Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for just any reason?”
Jesus replied, “Moses permitted divorce only as a concession to your hard hearts, but it was not what God had originally intended.
And I tell you this, whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery—unless his wife has been unfaithful.”
Divorce has been a very big issue with believers especially in recent centuries when the values of marriage itself has been tampered with, feminism, masculism, and other secular pollution have contaminated marriages. The media has also caused its own havoc.
Divorce to the secular world of today is excused as just a temporary relapse, that one just gets up from and continues life without any form of restrain.
We however need to understand God’s perspective:
Matthew 19:4-6
“Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’”
And he said, “‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’
Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”
SO VERY CLEARLY IT IS NOT MAN to MAN or WOMAN to WOMAN or any other form of combination BUT MAN to WOMAN. QED!
The truth is, you either take God's recommendation or you reject it. There is no two ways about it.
What does God say about divorce?
Malachi 2:16
“For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”
The scriptures seems to put the whole burden on the man. Well, the man does the marrying, he pays the dowry and he should literally be the spiritual and physical head of the home.
Even in new testament teaching the husband is to love the wife while the wife submits to make this love possible.
Truly many could teach equality in marriage, yes, each believer has their authority. However, if you do decide to marry, there is a spiritual order, you cannot be wiser than God.
Read Ephesians 5:21-33
The disciples listening to what Jesus explained about divorce said:
Matthew 19:10
Jesus’ disciples then said to him, “If this is the case, it is better not to marry!”
Is it a sin or evil not to marry? NO!
---Now the instruction of "... fill the earth..." has already been fulfilled. (this is by the way) - - -
Yet, however it is a good thing to marry, but don't forget that the contract only lasts for this life time:
Luke 20:34-36
Jesus replied, “Marriage is for people here on earth.
But in the age to come, those worthy of being raised from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage.
And they will never die again. In this respect they will be like angels. They are children of God and children of the resurrection.
We must get it right, thus we do not force people to get married or to stay celibate. They are both very great decisions and they must be well thought out, meditated on and interceded for before one decides. Listen to Jesus:
Matthew 19:11-12
“Not everyone can accept this statement,” Jesus said. “Only those whom God helps.
Some are born as eunuchs, some have been made eunuchs by others, and some choose not to marry for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.”
For captives of kings of old were castrated that they would not have carnal knowledge of the king's wives or concubine (Joseph was indeed favoured...)
So divorce is not pleasing to the Lord, so before venturing into marriage "the two" must understand this and take caution. For as I always advice the youths, PLAN FOR THE MARRIAGE less for THE WEDDING!
And for the married, it is a covenant that the heavens recognize, do not toil with it. Stay in prayers, do have times to pray together, dine and worship together, love your spouse, forgive and quench that smoke before it leads to a fire. Play your part, it is your(s) home, you build it together. Never betray your spouse.
Marriage is beautiful, when there is peace and love. Perfect when the Lord is in charge.
The Lord bless our homes, our marriages will stay the time and homes will be solid. Then we would have a blessed church and decent society.
So help us Good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
Love

Amen
