LOOKING FOR SIGNS
Matthew 16:4
Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Then Jesus left them and went away.
The Pharisees and Sadducees came to ask Jesus this question as a test. The question is why? Why did they seek a sign?
Christ did not need to prove to anyone He was the Messiah, His works alone was evident. Remember there was a time John the Baptist sent his disciples to also ascertain if He was the Messiah (John 7).
What was the issue? They were all looking out for the wrong thing. They expected an instant overthrow of the Roman government and installation of Israel as world power. However they missed it.
Also Herod when he heard of the mission of the wise men from the east, he thought the same. He thought the kingship of Christ was for this temporary reign. He did not know that Christ came for an everlasting reign! These led him to one of the greatest massacres of innocent children at that time.
Now the Pharisees and Sadducees were not sincere at this time. They were not just trying to prove if He was the Messiah or not but they wanted Him to show a sort of magic, a display from heaven, just like Christ warned that the anti-christ would do.
Jesus said that it is a wicked and adulterous generation that will demand a miraculous sign. Now let us get this right. We are always to be prepared. Christ gave a parable of a master who travelled and left the care of his children at the hands of his stewards. These stewards when they saw that the master delayed in coming began to maltreat the children. They however did not know when the master was to return. Jesus asked that when the master returned what will be the faith of these disobedient servants. . .
The evil generation seek for signs because they are not ready to be constant in season and out of season, this is one reason why no one knows the hour when the son of man will return. Many have died yet expecting his return we must be ready at all times.
It is not about following miraculous signs, for there the believer can be deceived. Every believer ought to be used to miraculous works, for Christ said, these signs would follow us.
We must not be counted among the evil and adulterous generation. We serve the Heavenly Father through His Word, Jesus the Christ. We walk by faith and not by sight, we are not under the bondage of religion or man made beliefs. For a lot of false things have filled the earth and many have been deceived by crafty plans of the enemy. It is not about the multitude. Remember it is the remnant that is redeemed.
The only sign, is that of Jonah. Christ Jesus died and stayed in the belly of the earth for three days the Heavenly Father raised Him again from the dead by the power of His Holy Spirit, it is then that the power of death and hell was conquered and satan had no dominion over those who belief in Him.
Matthew 28:18,20
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
No other person can claim this authority, there is no other way.
Acts 4:11-12
For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says,
‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’
There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
What ever name you call on earth or heaven, none can replace the Word, the very begotten of the Father, it is to Him that every living being would account.
2 Timothy 4:1
I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he comes to set up his Kingdom:
Glory to God, we are of the generation that belief. Glory to God.
He calls us blessed.
Love
@the watcher.
