THE PURPOSE OF THE LAW
Matthew 5:17
“Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
When we say a thing is fulfilled, we mean that it's dispensation is over. Does it make it evil? NO, it only implies that something better has come.
So what was the purpose of the law?
To focus the heart of man on the Heavenly Father. It was a school master to help God's people stay in tune with God in all they do, that they would not be destroyed.
Galatians 3:24-26
Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith.
And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.
For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
For when the law states an offense, it also states its penalty.
For in summary we know that the wages of sin is death
Now Christ has paid the price. Yes, He paid with his own life!
So in Christ Jesus we do not please the Father in fear of punishment or death, but for the love of the Father. We are not in bondage as slaves, waiting for the stripes. No we Honour Him as sons walking in obedience:
Romans 8:15-16
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
So we do not rely on the carnal man but on the Spirit thus what the law could not do, the Spirit does because we are in tune with the Father.
John 16:13
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
So our liberty is not for us to err in the law, No, we have a higher law, which is actually the law of liberty, embedded in love.
So Christ has fulfilled the purpose of the law. Thus our job is to follow Christ, for it is in Him we fulfil God's will that all may return to Him
1 John 3:23-24
And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us.
Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us.
Halleluyah. The law is fulfilled in Christ Jesus, we are free in Him to walk in liberty, obeying the Father not as slaves but as sons. Glory to God. The purpose of the law has been fulfilled in Christ Jesus.
He calls us blessed.
