ORDERLINESS IN OUR GATHERING

1 Corinthians 11:16
But if anyone wants to argue about this, I simply say that we have no other custom than this, and neither do God’s other churches.

In this chapter holds some areas that have been debated back and forth by preachers and teachers through the years, especially in the liberation of denominations.

Firstly, the authority of man over the woman and the relation to Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:3, 8-9
But there is one thing I want you to know: The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
For the first man didn’t come from woman, but the first woman came from man.
And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man.

You read this and then read still:

1 Corinthians 11:11-12
But among the Lord’s people, women are not independent of men, and men are not independent of women.
For although the first woman came from man, every other man was born from a woman, and everything comes from God.

Thus the wise conclusion is that God positions the man over the woman, yet the woman is not inferior to the man.

Now let me emphasize again as I did in my other writings, please be sure the woman in question is your wife before your begin to exercise positional authority!
(let us leave it here)

Now embedded in this is the issue of covering of the head by the woman.

This has also been argued expressively and just as good study of scriptures is, the issue ought also to be sighted in other scriptures to get a balance.

However, this may not apply here because wearing of veils by Jewish women was a prevailing custom, thus, it is unlikely that it would be an issue to them. However a Gentile church like that in Corinth may not have the basic custom of veiling the head, thus the matter would not arise at all.

Some would ask, then what is your interpretation of the matter? I would say, why was it an issue at all? Paul would not have mentioned it if it did not matter.

1 Corinthians 11:5-6
But a woman dishonors her head if she prays or prophesies without a covering on her head, for this is the same as shaving her head.
Yes, if she refuses to wear a head covering, she should cut off all her hair! But since it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or her head shaved, she should wear a covering.

Now does this imply that the women in the church at Corinth had their hair shaved? Very unlikely.

Thus if they had their hair on, what covering is being talked about here? Could it be a hair style? I can't say.

Look at it again, if she does not want to cover her head, she should have her head shaved!!!

Now what was the reason. Firstly she dishonours her head by leaving it uncovered - - - verse 3, shows us that this is her husband.

Then the second reason is because of the angels.

1 Corinthians 11:10
For this reason, and because the angels are watching, a woman should wear a covering on her head to show she is under authority.

(I will also leave this here)

The final part of this chapter now talks of communion, the celebration of the body and blood of Christ. Now this celebration is so important because Christ commanded that it should be celebrated. It is actually the new passover.

1 Corinthians 11:23-25
For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread
and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”
In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.”

I love the discipline of orthodox churches that explicitly wants the communicant to be confirmed, that is taught then brought to receive this communion. However, many of them miss it in that the confirmation ought to be the release of the Holy Spirit. However it has been turned by many to become teaching of secular church doctrine and literature or academic procedure. No, I repeat, it should be the young believer's experience with the Holy Spirit. "the believers day of Pentecost".

1 Corinthians 11:26-27
For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.
So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

This ceremony is significant because it is a spiritual activity that draws the attention of heaven, it is neither a party or casual gathering. It is an announcement!

Thus it is very dangerous to do it carelessly:

Listen:

1 Corinthians 11:28-31
That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup.
For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself.
That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died.
But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way.

Should one who has not yet been saved and receive God’s Spirit eat of this communion. NO!

I will also stop it here because:

1 Corinthians 11:32-34
Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned along with the world.
So, my dear brothers and sisters, when you gather for the Lord’s Supper, wait for each other.
If you are really hungry, eat at home so you won’t bring judgment upon yourselves when you meet together. I’ll give you instructions about the other matters after I arrive.

May the Lord give us more understanding.

He has done so much for us, it costs us nothing to be faithful. We will not miss it. We are victorious.

All glory to the Heavenly Father and His Word, yes, His Son,  Praise Him!

He calls us blessed.

Love
@the watcher
