NOT WISER THAN GOD
1 Corinthians 1:19-20
As the Scriptures say,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”
So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish.
We do not have the full information of things before creation, however our interest should lie on ourselves, that is when we were created. The scriptures through the revelation to Moses gives us the description that led to our(man's) creation.
Many have tried to explain existence before man, yes, science-based, atheism, religious folks, philosophers. Everyone has a theory to pre and pro creation. The truth is that it remains theory. The wise would seek to know the now and the eternity, for in there lies hope.
Thus I am content to stay with scriptures, though there are books that were considered scriptures, which I have studied some if not all. I remain with the bible.
The key is this - God's Spirit.
Ecclesiastes 3:11
Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
If you have the audacity to question God, the first question should not be "why did you allow man eat the fruit in the garden" but, "why did you create man?".
However you did be careful for man's enemy was not happy that man was created, for he lost his place and man fulfills this.
Revelation 4:11
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Thus we should be interested in ourselves, what is the purpose of our creation? Who best to know than He who created? That is why the first foolishness of man is to deny or neglect His creator.
Luke 12:16,19-21
Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops.
And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’
“But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’
“Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
Psalms 53:1
Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!
Thus not acknowledging God is the height of man's foolishness!
Let us look through scriptures, firstly we must be reminded that man was made in God’s image. Genesis 1:27
The man that God created had a will, he was a god in that he had the power of choice and could also command things to be. Genesis 2:19
This very will is what makes the question of God allowing man to eat the fruit in the garden irrelevant. Just the same way we have a power source, in every area around us, a man who decides to toil with the electrical wiring and gets shocked can not blame the inventor of electricity. Check.
So we see as we read through the records of scriptures that man kept making choices, "Cain and Abel", "Abraham and Lot", "Jacob and Esau", "Joseph and his brothers" etc
Some made right choices others made wrong ones, and each had its repercussions.
On and again, the Heavenly Father had to intervene to help the situation. Thus man cannot totally rely on self. Man was created to depend on God.
In the book of Judges we would read of some mundane acts in Israel and the reason was:
Judges 21:25
In those days [there was] no king in Israel: every man did [that which was] right in his own eyes.
Man left on his own could be a disaster. Thus we need God we need order, we need a system.
Back to man. Remember that man was tempted. What was the reason for his tempt? It was for him to fall, the enemy used the serpent to lie to man that man may loose his place. For man had to prove his worthiness:
John 8:44
For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 10:10a
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.
People say, why not just destroy the enemy then all will be at peace. Here is one place we do not understand, for these things were before our existence. He is legal and just, He will not jump the legalized path He has set.
The same people would say, Lord kill all the wicked on earth, take away their wealth and give to the righteous etc. There is a timing for all things, the Lord will not disabuse it. Now listen to this:
Matthew 8:29
They began screaming at him, “Why are you interfering with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before God’s appointed time?”
So even the powers of darkness understands God's legal stand and they use it. This is why we had "the accuser of the brethren".
Now let us look at God's wisdom. It seemed as if there was no hope for man. Remember the enemy knew the law:
Genesis 2:16-17
But the lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”
Genesis 3:1,4-5
The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”
“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman.
“God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”
Thus man was doomed by this choice, an act of disobedience.
However God loved man, He still wanted man to be part of His kingdom. Now see this, man was already set at motion. Day after day, people were being born. It was God's desire to fill the earth with people as angels filled the heavens. (this is why no singular person should feel so important). For you or me is just one person out of so many, past - present - future.
So how was man to be redeemed? There were two wisdom on earth, those who believed in the super-natural (Jews and other religious folks), then the Greeks (philosophers, atheists etc). Neither of these two groups could fathom God's plan for the salvation/rescue of man. Even man's enemy could not.
1 Corinthians 2:8
But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:20-22
So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish.
Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.
It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.
Thus the Jews who thought the Messiah would descend from heaven with fanfare to save the day, were disappointed when it was a baby born in a manger. The Greek/intellectuals who taught that seeking knowledge and deep understanding could bring salvation, were confounded to discover that just by hearing and believing salvation comes to man.
1 Corinthians 1:22-24
It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.
So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.
But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.
God concluded man's redemption by his faith!
1 Corinthians 1:25-28
This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you.
Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.
God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.
Thus no one can claim that they redeemed themselves!
1 Corinthians 1:29
As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
So not all the big and eloquent speeches, or show of human wisdom or magic, or deep learning, but with simplicity of preaching salvation is birthed.
Christ Jesus became all in all, that through God's own Word revealed in the flesh, man is restored to life. Glory to God.
1 Corinthians 1:30-31
God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.
Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”
So it us yet all about the Heavenly Father. From beginning to end.
Human wisdom cannot help here neither religion. But Christ is God's wisdom revealed.
Thus God's wisdom supercedes all, your limited philosophies can solve nothing, your questions fall flat at His wisdom. They kept asking Him(Christ), again and again, the ended being shamed for when you think you know, you may have yet to scratch the surface.
Isaiah 55:8-9
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
For wisdom is to fear the Lord.
Proverbs 3:5,7
Trust in the lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the lord and turn away from evil.
Thus it is wisdom not foolishness to seek God's direction as we go on in this life. For no matter how much you may desire that all things will end, the life after here is a function of how we live here Now!
Help us good Lord.
He calls us blessed.
Love
