GET RID OF THE OLD YEAST

1 Corinthians 5:6-7
Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough?
Get rid of the old “yeast” by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.

When one bad apple is placed with other fresh healthy apples, the mould (releasing ethanol etc,. . .) from that bad apple spreads to the other apples and they all become spoilt. This is also how yeast works, just a little of it leavens a whole loaf.

I Corinthians 5, tells of the abominations boasted about by the church at Corinth, unacceptable sexual immorality, a man sleeping with the father's wife and other unacceptable behaviours. He insisted that the immoral brethren should be cast out.

1 Corinthians 5:3-5
Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spirit. And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this man in the name of the Lord Jesus. You must call a meeting of the church. I will be present with you in spirit, and so will the power of our Lord Jesus.
Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns.

Do we know that it is because of this indiscipline that a lot of"unheards" and indiscipline has become a norm in the church. Things which are naturally frowned at, are now accepted in so called church gatherings.

Paul reminds us that we cannot avoid relating with these characters in the secular world, yes, for what do you expect from those who do not fear God. However it seems as if some of them fair better than some who claim to be believers. Lord have mercy.

1 Corinthians 5:9-11
When I wrote to you before, I told you not to associate with people who indulge in sexual sin.
But I wasn’t talking about unbelievers who indulge in sexual sin, or are greedy, or cheat people, or worship idols. You would have to leave this world to avoid people like that.
I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.

See believer, judge yourself, just like a good student examines themselves before the examination proper. Don't wait for another to judge you or the Lord, always stay right. For no one is bigger than temptation.

This is why believers find themselves in positions of authority and they do not represent well. They are easily overshadowed by greed, lust and pride.

Then for the church, hmm leaders, can you judge another when you do the same thing???

Romans 2:1-3
You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.
And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things.
Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God’s judgment when you do the same things?

Hmm it is not too late for a total overhaul. Are we still that shinning example to the world. Or do we pursue the same things they pursue. Where exactly is the advantage, where is the difference? In what way does the Spirit of God in us make us a testimony?

"None is left out of these, no matter the person's status or title, not even me writing and not you!"

1 Corinthians 5:12-13
It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning.
God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, “You must remove the evil person from among you.”

Help us good Lord.

He calls us blessed.
