WHILE WE WAIT
2 Peter 3:11
Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live,
Do believers still talk or teach about eternity? Or do we speak and act as if here is all we got and that we will be here forever. NO!
1 Corinthians 15:19
And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.
2 Peter 3:12-13
looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames.
But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.
Are believers today really looking towards it?
Yes, it is true that sometimes before now, believers were not properly instructed on how to live "the now", it did lead to some mediocrity and the erroneous conception that the believer does not have an impact to the secular society.
Thus there was a need to inform believers that they had a duty to play with their talents and gifts to solve problems and thus be relevant in society.
Yes, the believer makes money, builds legacies that are inheritable and from their prosperity fund the evangelical work. Very true.
However we must not lose balance. The foundation must remain sure!
Matthew 6:33
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
You don't throw away your salvation to gain the things of the world. That is an extreme level of foolishness and a terrible err.
Matthew 16:26
And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
Thus Peter counsels. . . "while you wait. . ."
2 Peter 3:14
And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.
While we wait for His return we remain faithful and do NOT get contaminated, our garment must remain spotless, our lamps must have enough oil.
2 Peter 3:17
You already know these things, dear friends. So be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing.
Will you do this on your own? No. The grace of God is available, as we continue to yield to the Spirit.
2 Peter 3:18
Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.
We will finish well, glory to God.
He calls us blessed.
