FAMILY AFFAIR
1 John 2:1
My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.
In contrast to the job of the enemy to accuse, we have an advocate, yes our Lord Jesus the Christ, He advocates for us. He stands as our assurance for He has paid the price.
1 John 2:2
He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.
Oh, if all really understand what Christ has done for all of humanity. Why would anyone hesitate to come!
Matthew 11:27-30
“My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Religion cannot save, we cannot save ourselves, Christ came to make us family. Glory to God. He made us heavenly citizens, that we enjoy the privilege of sonship.
Listen:
1 John 2:12-14
I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.
I am writing to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning.
I am writing to you who are young in the faith because you have won your battle with the evil one.
I have written to you who are God’s children because you know the Father.
I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning.
I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong.
God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one.
See, the problem of man from the fall was that all came under the bondage of satan and the powers of darkness. For sin is darkness. (This was why the enemy dared contest for the body of Moses. . .)
Only Christ Jesus can set anyone free, He had to come and defeat sin and death, His death and resurrection changed everything.
Matthew 27:50-54
Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit.
At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart,
and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead.
They left the cemetery after Jesus’ resurrection, went into the holy city of Jerusalem, and appeared to many people.
The Roman officer and the other soldiers at the crucifixion were terrified by the earthquake and all that had happened. They said, “This man truly was the Son of God!”
The resurrection brought about God's Spirit dwelling in all that believe today, thus Christ ascended but yet dwell in us by His Spirit, Glory to God.
Matthew 28:5-6,18-20
Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Thus a big family was formed, being added each day by those who believe.
John 1:12-13
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.
So we love Him, and what is the evidence of this love, our obedience to Him.
1 John 2:4-6
If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.
But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him.
Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
Are these commandments the law given to Moses, No, they are greater than that for:
Luke 16:16-17
“Until John the Baptist, the law of Moses and the messages of the prophets were your guides. But now the Good News of the Kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is eager to get in.
But that doesn’t mean that the law has lost its force. It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the smallest point of God’s law to be overturned.
Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.
A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
The summary of the commandments is love!
1 John 2:7-11
Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before.
Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.
If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness.
Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble.
But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.
This family is governed by the law of love.
John 3:35-36
The Father loves his Son and has put everything into his hands.
And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”
Are you in this family? Glory to God, the accuser has no power over you, for you have an advocate.
Are you still outside? What are you waiting for?
In this family, we begin by faith and continue by faith, our maturity comes from knowing more of Christ and revelation of His resurrection power. We walk in His light thus we are not trapped in darkness. We enjoy His victory here on earth and we also have our eternity secured.
John 14:1-3
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.
No matter what happens, no matter what we hear or see, this truth cannot be negated. Christ has given us the victory.
Thank you Heavenly Father for making me family. The sacrifice of your Son is the greatest sacrifice of all. Glory, glory, I worship you.
He calls us blessed.
