THEN, NOW and LATER

Joel 2:1
Sound the trumpet in Jerusalem! Raise the alarm on my holy mountain!
Let everyone tremble in fear because the day of the Lord is upon us.

To understand the message of the prophets we must remember the three phases of the messages, that which has taken place, that which is happening now or is for this season and that which will happen later or at the end.

Joel chapter 2 talks of Israel's captivity then reveals the coming of the Messiah and the release of the Holy Spirit. The liberty here surpasses the physical liberation of Israel. It is liberty for the whole of creation.

Joel 2:28-29
“Then, after doing all those things,  I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.
In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on servants—men and women alike.

For while the leaders and learned were seeking a political revolution from Roman captivity, Christ was revealed. While they were busy arguing around the truth, the revolution happened. God dwelled with man. The servants, maidservants, yes ordinary people received power and become God’s witnesses on earth.

Matthew 21:31-32
“Which of the two obeyed his father?”They replied, “The first.”Then Jesus explained his meaning: “I tell you the truth, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do.
For John the Baptist came and showed you the right way to live, but you didn’t believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to believe him and repent of your sins.

Oh the simplicity of salvation!

1 Corinthians 1:25-31
This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you.
Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.
God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.
As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.
Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”

This is why it is not wisdom to think you can work your salvation. Your duty is to walk in the Holy Spirit.

The last stage is for the end to come.

Joel 2:30-31
And I will cause wonders in the heavens and on the earth— blood and fire and columns of smoke.
The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and terrible day of the Lord arrives.

See the number of years it took for God's vision to Abraham to be fully completed, see the number of years before Christ was revealed. Definitely the end of all things was not to be immediate also, the disciples waited as they faced persecutions at that time, many have waited after them. We who live now also wait.

One thing is sure the time is more closer to us than it was to them.

The end will surely come. However, remember that when one leaves this earth their end has already come!

Hebrews 9:27
And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment,

We read the past or it is revealed to us so that we can learn, we get revelation of the presence so that we can take the right steps, and we get revelation of the future so we can prepare accordingly.

What is the hope?

Joel 2:32a
But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,

Then when you are saved, you go ahead to blow the trumpet.

Joel 2:1
Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for [it is] nigh at hand;

Glory to God. We will not be left behind. We are the victorious. For His Spirit lives in us.

He calls us blessed.
