REPRESENT WELL
1 Peter 2:15-16
It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you.
For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.
Everyone represents a place, a people, a family or a kingdom. There are attributes of every member of a kingdom, the fact that you live somewhere else does not change your person, you ought to represent well.
1 Peter 2:10
“Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people.
Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”
Thus we are reminded today that our character is that of our new kingdom, the kingdom of God, so that is what we display.
1 Peter 2:11-12
Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.
Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.
Submitting to the existing authority is in order, for they are there to make things to be in order, this is acceptable to God:
1 Peter 2:13-14
For the Lord’s sake, submit to all human authority—whether the king as head of state, or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right.
It is an irony for the believer to get punished for being an evil doer, meddler into other people's affairs, a thief or as a law breaker. It cannot be, for we have a higher form of righteousness.
You submit to those who are over you, not because of them(they could be kind or mean, it doesn't matter), but because of the one who is the author of structure. For He is our real Master:
However if you suffer for doing good, or for the sake of Christ, the sake of the gospel then you have a reward with the Father, you can now say you live like Christ, it makes sense:
1 Peter 2:19-21
For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment.
Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you.
For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.
Listen to Jesus:
Matthew 5:11-12
“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.
Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.
Believers are not strangers to persecution, the fact that people hate you or want to oppress you or take advantage of you because of your faith in Christ is not strange, it is part of the package. Though WOE unto those who do, however there are always sons of perdition. Just a pity on those who allow themselves to be, for they must pay the price.
*Remember that though they were used to punish and chastise Israel for their wrong, those nations still paid the price for being the punisher. Check! *
Isaiah 33:1
What sorrow awaits you Assyrians, who have destroyed others but have never been destroyed yourselves.
You betray others, but you have never been betrayed.
When you are done destroying, you will be destroyed.
When you are done betraying, you will be betrayed.
Thus be careful when it seems you are in charge at the moment and the whip of correction is in your hand!
We as believers must understand that we are not just wandering stars, like atheists, or other forms of devotee, or hypocrites, we are a people bought with a price and returned to our author, our maker. The best place to be.
1 Peter 2:25
Once you were like sheep who wandered away.
But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.
The beauty of it is that the door is open to everyone, why would anyone want to stay outside? Revelation 3:20-22.
We represent well, for we have the Heavenly Father's Spirit within us, and we yield to Him. Glory to God.
He calls us blessed.
