DO NOT FORGET

Hosea 11:3
I myself taught Israel how to walk, leading him along by the hand.
But he doesn’t know or even care that it was I who took care of him.

How easily humans forget, it seems to be one weak point of man. Imagine what Israel would have been if they did not decide to forget, what greatness the Lord had in store for them. Listen:

Deuteronomy 2:25
This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations [that are] under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.

The ought to have continued in this glory having a wonderful relationship with the Heavenly Father from generation to generation till the revelation of the Son. After this they ought to have championed the transition in heavenly citizenship. However, they did not, they chose to FORGET.

Psalm 78 summarizes there rebellion, here is an extract:

Psalms 78:5-8,10-11
For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel.
He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children.
So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.
Then they will not be like their ancestors— stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.
They did not keep God’s covenant and refused to live by his instructions.
They forgot what he had done— the great wonders he had shown them,

They chose to forget!

People may still ask, why do we study this old testament scriptures?

It is so that we do not make the same mistakes.

Romans 15:4
Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.

As believers today, do we FORGET?

The evidence of one forgetting, is seen in ones action or inaction.

James 1:22-25
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.
You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.
But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

At the initiation of salvation, the believer is seen with much zeal and excitement, however as time goes on they seem to be a sort of relaxation, a drop of zeal an entrance of distractions. What went wrong - "they forget".

This is one reasons trials come, to keep the believers alert, that they do not forget who they are and the battle they have.

Acts 2:42,46-47
All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.
They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

There is need for daily study of the word, daily worship of the Heavenly Father and daily prayers. That one would not forget.

For why should one forget who we have become in Christ Jesus, the authority we have and the power available for us to do God's work?

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

We cannot afford to forget who we have become in Christ Jesus:

1 Peter 2:9
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Have you forgotten who you are in Christ Jesus? Are you living who you are? Are you fulfilling His purpose? Are you walking by His Spirit?

The same way the Lord has done glorious things in the life of many, however they are quick to forget, something comes up and they allow themselves get chattered. No, remember that He who parted the red sea, is yet able to bring it down on the enemies. He who brought manner will also provide good water to digest it. He who pulled down the wall of Jericho can drive out the other cities that stand on the way.

Why do they choose to forget?

We do not forget, we hear, we see, and we believe, we will not forget.

Glory to God.

He calls us blessed.
