INTRODUCING HIMSELF
Exodus 19:16-20
On the morning of the third day, thunder roared and lightning flashed, and a dense cloud came down on the mountain. There was a long, loud blast from a ram’s horn, and all the people trembled.
Moses led them out from the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.
All of Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the Lord had descended on it in the form of fire. The smoke billowed into the sky like smoke from a brick kiln, and the whole mountain shook violently.
As the blast of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God thundered his reply.
The Lord came down on the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses climbed the mountain.
The children of Israel had heard about the Lord but they had never experienced Him, yes they had seen the miracles, from the plagues in Egypt to the parting of the red sea. However they had not experienced God's presence or glory from heaven.
Two months after they left Egypt they were about to meet with the Lord, you should expect a grandeur!
The people had to be prepared:
Exodus 19:10-11
Then the lord told Moses, “Go down and prepare the people for my arrival. Consecrate them today and tomorrow, and have them wash their clothing.
Be sure they are ready on the third day, for on that day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai as all the people watch.
The Lord thus displayed His power and they result was FEAR!
A boundary was set, anyone who dared cross apart from Moses or Aaron was to be stoned or shot to death. Anyone who dared touch the mountain was to be killed.
Exodus 19:12
Mark off a boundary all around the mountain. Warn the people, ‘Be careful! Do not go up on the mountain or even touch its boundaries. Anyone who touches the mountain will certainly be put to death.
Then came the laws. . .
When we read about these experiences we begin to appreciate what the Son, Christ Jesus came to do for us, listen:
Hebrews 12:18-24
You have not come to a physical mountain, to a place of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai.
For they heard an awesome trumpet blast and a voice so terrible that they begged God to stop speaking.
They staggered back under God’s command: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”
Moses himself was so frightened at the sight that he said, “I am terrified and trembling.”
No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering.
You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect.
You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel.
The people did not really experience the Heavenly Father as their Father, the experienced fear as submission to obey not out of love but FEAR!
(We will see more of these as we study the ten commandments in chapter 20 tomorrow)
It was not that they saw God but that God spoke to them from heaven and they saw His manifestation on Mount Sinai:
Exodus 19:9,18,21
Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will come to you in a thick cloud, Moses, so the people themselves can hear me when I speak with you. Then they will always trust you.”Moses told the Lord what the people had said.
All of Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the Lord had descended on it in the form of fire. The smoke billowed into the sky like smoke from a brick kiln, and the whole mountain shook violently.
Then the Lord told Moses, “Go back down and warn the people not to break through the boundaries to see the Lord, or they will die.
For God is immeasurable, unquantifiable and omnipresent. Thus He came in form of fire:
This is why we preach to all, no matter whatever religion or denominations exists all talk of a God who is far away and gives instructions of this or that, but Christ Jesus did not come for that, He was God present with us. That is why He was called Emmanuel "God with us". God coming down as man to save man. It bewilders so many theologians, intellectuals and scholars.
However that is what God said:
Isaiah 55:8-9
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
1 Corinthians 1:27-29
Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.
God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.
As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
Up till today, people are still seeking the Heavenly Father through physical practices, looking for special sites or places, making books sacred etc. However, only the Son could reveal the Heavenly Father:
John 1:18
No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.
John 14:6,9
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?
This grace of God has been revealed to all men, everyone has been called to enjoy this grace. It is our choice to believe or remain in bondage.
Religions, cults and sets will exist till the earth is destroyed. People will keep trooping in and out however there remains only ONE WAY:
John 14:6
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
I pray that all would come to this truth, even those who claim to have known but are actually of the evil one, for salvation is of the heart.
Romans 10:10
For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
Isaiah 29:13-14
And so the Lord says, “These people say they are mine.
They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.
Because of this, I will once again astound these hypocrites with amazing wonders.
The wisdom of the wise will pass away, and the intelligence of the intelligent will disappear.”
Lord I pray that many find their way to you through your son Jesus Christ, away from all the religions and traditions of man in and out of the church. That your true light will shine in every heart so that on the day of reckoning, they will not be cast away. Have Mercy Dear Father.
He calls us blessed.
