TERRIBLE EXCHANGE
Genesis 25:32
And Esau said, Behold, I [am] at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
Mark 8:37
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
One of the greatest destroyer we have is "immediate gratification"!
Esau sold off his birthday for a simply reason: he did not know the value of it.
Genesis 25:34
Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised [his] birthright.
What a careless way to live, for eventually when it was time to reap the benefits of his birthright, he lost it all!
Hebrews 12:16-17
Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birthright as the firstborn son for a single meal.
You know that afterward, when he wanted his father’s blessing, he was rejected. It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears.
Begging and tears could not restore what he lost. He realized it's importance, but it was already too late.
Don't we do the same with what the Lord has entrusted to us?
Our salvation:
Philippians 2:12-13
Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
Some are careless as believers, they do not follow the discipline, they leave themselves open to anything, then wonder why they experience so heavy a temptation. Some neglect prayers, study of the Word and worship, yet, they wonder why they do not grow. Some have made earthy their pursuit that every thing divine from the Lord has been converted into worldly currency and earthy riches. We must step up, and be spiritually wise.
There are things the Lord has entrusted to us and we cannot afford to gamble with them: our children & dependants, our ministry, our family, our job even our nation. What are yours?
Do we dare judge Esau and one way or the other, do the same?
There are transactions that are terrible exchanges, we cannot afford to shortchange ourselves. What have you sacrificed, what are you about to sacrifice, have you weighed properly? - learn from Esau.
We must set our priorities right, for there are things when lost they become very difficult or impossible to recover. Lord have mercy.
Hebrews 6:4-6
For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened—those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit,
who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come—
and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.
We must beware of dangerous exchanges. Oh help us O Lord!
Help us Oh Lord.
He calls us blessed.
