GOD OF JUDGMENT
Genesis 18:21
I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
Why the need to investigate? The cry had come up to the heavens concerning the evil that the city of Sodom and Gomorrah had continued to commit, yet they were given the chance to prove themselves.
They showed their evil nature, even as far as attacking the messengers of God, who came on inspection. What more evidence was needed? It was time for judgment.
Genesis 19:4-5
But before they retired for the night, all the men of Sodom, young and old, came from all over the city and surrounded the house.
They shouted to Lot, “Where are the men who came to spend the night with you? Bring them out to us so we can have sex with them!”
Even Abraham tried negotiating:
Genesis 18:32
And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for ten's sake.
Of the population of the cities, even ten men could not be found!
So YOU (yes, you and I), must remain faithful. We must make up the number that will stand in the gap to save our nation from destruction. For God said He will not destroy the righteous with the wicked.
Why does the Lord need to bring judgment on people?
They have refused to do justice! They have refused to show righteous judgment. They thus sin by causing pain and misery on others:
Malachi 3:5
And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in [his] wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger [from his right], and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.
Another reason for judgment is to set an example, that others may see and thus make wise decisions. They ought NOT to repeat the same mistake.
The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah stands as examples for everyone to see:
2 Peter 2:6
And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned [them] with an overthrow, making [them] an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
For the Heavenly Father is a God of justice and expects us to be just too. He was soo pleased with Solomon when he was made king, for his request was to do what pleases the Lord - justice and righteous judgment:
1Kings 3:10-11
And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
That is why a man of pride and relevance seeking individuals may never be of any use to the Heavenly Father. For you can heap all the titles you want, go to all the theological schools, read and read all texts, if you do not carry the nature of God within you, it is all a wasted effort.
We see man trying to lord over man. A repeat of the failures of the Jewish rulers of old. They pride themselves that they are learned in the letters, they can not be corrected, but they love to correct and stand in judgment over others. Funny enough they were not recognized.
Luke 10:21
In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Thus they looked at the disciples and wondered for they were not learned men.
Paul had to let go of his CV, he laid all the degrees asides, that he could be profitable to the Heavenly Father.
Philippians 3:8
Yea doubtless, and I count all things [but] loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them [but] dung, that I may win Christ,
Thus we can judge rightly when we let go of human pride, when the Lord is really our focus not prestige or relevance.
Why do we easily threaten, what really do we have, what power do we have over a fellow man. Do you feed them, clothe them, heal them, or give them life? What power exactly, do you think you have over a fellow human? What is wrong with humans. What is making us so proud, so full of authority. Who are you to threaten?
We who have believed are not to be on the wrong side of judgment. We must NOT be found wanting.
The judgment of the Lord will come on the wicked, we should have no part in it. His judgment must favour us. We must not be found doing those things we speak against. Those things we judge people on, we must not be guilty of:
Romans 2:1-3
You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.
And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things.
Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God’s judgment when you do the same things?
Hello - WHO MADE YOU JUDGE?
Jude 1:24-25
Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.
All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.
He calls us blessed.
