ENTER HIS REST

Genesis 2:3
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

All men are to seek to be a part of God's rest. Is it the Saturday or Sunday worship that some do? NO, it is more than that. It is the final rest, where the Lord Almighty would have brought judgment on all His enemies and bring all things to an end.

Isaiah 66:1
Thus saith the LORD, The heaven [is] my throne, and the earth [is] my footstool: where [is] the house that ye build unto me? and where [is] the place of my rest?

Isaiah 66:22-24
“As surely as my new heavens and earth will remain, so will you always be my people,
with a name that will never disappear,” says the lord.
“All humanity will come to worship me from week to week and from month to month.
And as they go out, they will see the dead bodies of those who have rebelled against me.
For the worms that devour them will never die, and the fire that burns them will never go out.
All who pass by will view them with utter horror.”

So the rest of the Lord is a destination, which is to come at the end of all things.

Hebrews 3:18-19
And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him?
So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.

The rest at the time was viewed as Canaan, however it extended more than that. For Isaiah yet talked of the rest.

Someone may ask has God been working,  yes,  Christ said so:

John 5:17
But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

Isaiah 11:10
And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Halleluyah, Christ came to work out the completion of this rest.

Hebrews 3:6
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

John 19:30
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

For if the rest had already come, it would not have been a promise. This is why Jesus told the Samaritan woman:

John 4:20,22-24
So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?”
You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews.
But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.
For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

The rest of the Lord is in the new heaven and the new earth.

Isaiah 66:22
For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

And anyone who will enter into God's rest must enter by faith:

Hebrews 3:19
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Ephesians h 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

It was this rest Christ was talking about in the fourteenth chapter of John.

John 14:1-3
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.

So the rest is more than a sabbath worship, that is why Jesus said:

Matthew 12:8
For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

The Lord will grant us grace to enter into His rest.

Our prayer should be what He promised: Lord may I always be where you are.

Glory to God.

He calls us blessed.

Love
