OVERCOME DISTRACTIONS
Nehemiah 6:1-4
Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies found out that I had finished rebuilding the wall and that no gaps remained—though we had not yet set up the doors in the gates.
So Sanballat and Geshem sent a message asking me to meet them at one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But I realized they were plotting to harm me,
so I replied by sending this message to them: “I am engaged in a great work, so I can’t come. Why should I stop working to come and meet with you?”
Four times they sent the same message, and each time I gave the same reply.
This is not strange, for any serious achiever knows that oppositions will always arise, from within or without.
Why some fail is that they give up along the way, most fail because they are not given the full picture of things on the onset.
See what Jesus told His disciples:
John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
No gathering of multitudes promising them things that never come to pass year after year. The most important thing is the soul of the believer, then the abiding with the Father, for everyone who have believed must learn to continue in communion with God's Spirit. This is the reason for fellowship, we stay together that we may grow in Christ and be one with Him.
Thus we should not be caught unawares, we should not be distracted. We must remain focused and resolute.
Nehemiah stayed focused, he did not fall for their distractions.
Our faith must be deeply rooted: our armour must be worn.
Matthew 13:7
And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
When distractions seem to fail, they come with blackmail.
Nehemiah 6:5-7
The fifth time, Sanballat’s servant came with an open letter in his hand,
and this is what it said:“There is a rumor among the surrounding nations, and Geshem tells me it is true, that you and the Jews are planning to rebel and that is why you are building the wall. According to his reports, you plan to be their king.
He also reports that you have appointed prophets in Jerusalem to proclaim about you, ‘Look! There is a king in Judah!’“You can be very sure that this report will get back to the king, so I suggest that you come and talk it over with me.”
Christ was accused falsely:
Matthew 26:59
Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
The disciples faced same:
Acts 6:12-13
This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council.
The lying witnesses said, “This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses.
We as believers must be able to recognize these devices knowing what to ignore and when to take action. However we must always stay in prayers. For we must never be out of tune with the Spirit.
Our victory has been won, we must not allow unnecessary damages that arise from distractions. Glory to God who makes all things work for our good.
He calls us blessed.
