TEACH YOUR CHILDREN (Psalm 78)
Psalm 78:4
We will not hide [them] from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
There is a reason why God chose Abraham to be the father of the generation from which the earth will be saved. Yes he was a man of faith and God knew he will teach his children:
Genesis 18:17
And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
Psalm 78 speaks of how the fathers erred. They ought to have been the carriers of hope, yes of faith, for they saw great miracles, yet the could not give a good report.
What examples did they show, for the very same people who saw the red sea part and walked through it, walked on dry ground through the Jordan, saw Jericho's wall go under, saw manna rain from heaven and many more, what message did they pass to their children?
For they did not leave good examples, thus the bible records:
Psalm 78:8
And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation [that] set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.
They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
We must learn from their errors that we do not do same. We must teach our generation to hope and trust in the Lord, we must guide them to keep His statues and to do His will. This is what the Lord desires from us:
Psalm 78:5
For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
That the generation to come might know [them, even] the children [which] should be born; [who] should arise and declare [them] to their children:
That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
We sing the song having this lyrics:
"Almighty God, my generations shall praise your name"
We must live up to this prophecy. That is what the Lord expects from us. Glory to His Holy name.
We will be the right example. Halleluyah.
He calls us blessed.
