THE WAIT - PATIENCE (Psalm 40)

Psalm 40:1
I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

This is one of the most difficult part of the believers walk. To wait on the Lord.

Some have thus called the Lord slow, why has the Lord delayed, why has He not answered my prayers, why has He not given me x or y?

Truly it is not easy to wait, yet the waiting is the patience, it is part of our christian walk. For without patience we cannot be perfect and wanting nothing:

James 1:4
But let patience have [her] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Without this singular attribute of God's Spirit we cannot finish well:

Luke 8:15
But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep [it], and bring forth fruit with patience.

Luke 21:19
In your patience possess ye your souls.

All those who walked in patience were able to fulfill God's will, for it is in patience that we can give room for the Spirit of God to direct us.

Patience must not be mistaken or confused with slothfulness or mediocrity, NO!

Look at those that finished well from the examples of our elders in the past, they had to wait: talk of Jacob, Joseph, Abraham, David and many others:

Hebrews 6:12
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

For those who did not have patience, that could not wait, brought problems to themselves and/or to their generation. See Cain, Esau, Saul, Gehazi etc.

In the New Testament patience is an essential ingredient for any believer:

Bro. Paul called Him "the God of patience":

Romans 15:5
Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

For He did miracles in patience:

2 Corinthians 12:12
Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

He grew into maturity by patience:

Colossians 1:11
Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

2Thessalonians 1:4
So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

We don't only have it as a fruit we improve on it, we receive more grace for it, it is the sign of maturity:

1 Timothy 6:11
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Titus 2:2
That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

Hebrews 10:36
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

For it is with patience that we wait for the second coming of Christ, so did many before us, for once you die, he has already returned for you. Selah

Do you know that without patience one would receive the mark of the beast:

Revelation 14:12
Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Yes without patience we cannot please God for faith is born of patience and patience is the attribute of faith. Glory to God.

Psalm 40:16
Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.

For it takes humility to walk in patience, the proud cannot endure.

Psalm 40:4
Blessed [is] that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

The Lord will help us, we will wait on Him continually, for He does not delay, He sees more than we do and knows more than we know.

Blessed be His Holy name.

He calls us blessed.
