SURE PROMISE (Psalm 48)
Psalm 48:14
For this God [is] our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide [even] unto death.
For we who have believed today are under the covenant of Faith like that of Abraham. For when God promised Abraham and Israel in times of old, He had all who will believe enclosed in His promises. For to them it was a shadow of things to come, but for us the fulfillment of these promises.
Hebrews 10:1
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, [and] not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
Isaiah 42:16
And I will bring the blind by a way [that] they knew not; I will lead them in paths [that] they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
Isaiah 61:1-3
The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
Thus when Christ was fully revealed, He repeated the same prophesy and then said:
Luke 4:21
And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
When we read through the Psalms and other parts of scriptures in the old testament, we see beyond the shadow and just as Christ revealed to Paul, we see the new Israel (the Israel of God), who do not seek Him outwardly only but from the heart.
John 4:24
God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.
For God said concerning the children of the old covenant:
Ezekiel 33:31
And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee [as] my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, [but] their heart goeth after their covetousness.
Isaiah 29:13
Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near [me] with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
Christ emphasized it:
Matthew 15:8-9
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with [their] lips; but their heart is far from me.
But in vain they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.
We who are in the new covenant, the covenant of sonship, cannot afford to err like they did. For we are empowered by His Spirit to do His will. Thus all God's promises are yea and amen to us:
2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
Yes, when we read through His promises we know that they are established in us. Glory to God.
For:
2 Corinthians 1:21
Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, [is] God;
Glory to God.
So we can again with full confidence say:
Psalm 48:14
For this God [is] our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide [even] unto death.
Our testimony:
Hebrews 13:5b
for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
He calls us blessed.
