PRIDE = FOOLISHNESS (Psalm 39)
Psalm 39:4
LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it [is; that] I may know how frail I [am].
What will make a man so proud, to think so highly of "self", can we estimate what we are, what our flesh/self is worth?
Psalm 39 says that at the highest peak of man's achievement, man is still vanity.
Psalm 39:5
Behold, thou hast made my days [as] an handbreadth; and mine age [is] as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state [is] altogether vanity. Selah.
Psalms 39:5(NLT)
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.”Interlude
How foolish to keep acquiring riches, heaping and heaping them, how foolish are those politicians and people in power who loot and cart away common wealth. How much of it will they spend or enjoy. They die and pass away most times from sicknesses and diseases that money cannot heal them of. They live in pain, falsehood and fear. Worst off, they have no clue who will finally squander all they have acquired or stolen. Foolishness!
Psalm 39:6
Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up [riches], and knoweth not who shall gather them.
For God has never liked the proud:
Proverbs 16:5
Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
Luke 14:11
For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
James 4:6
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
1 Peter 5:5
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all [of you] be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Proverbs 29:23
A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Who can battle with His maker. We must remember that man only became a living being after God put His breath in him. For else we are just a container. Just take a look at your body, how frail and fragile it is, just a cut, you see how vulnerable we are. "if not of the Lord's mercy"
Let us say like Bro. Paul:
Galatians 6:14
As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.
and
1 Corinthians 1:31
Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the lord.”
and Psalms:
Psalm 34:2
My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear [thereof], and be glad.
also Jeremiah,
Jeremiah 9:23-24
Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise [man] glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty [man] glory in his might, let not the rich [man] glory in his riches:
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I [am] the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these [things] I delight, saith the LORD.
WHAT IS YOUR BOAST, WHAT DO YOU GLORY IN?
Remember that we have limited time in this space!
The Lord has helped us, we will get it right.
He calls us blessed.
