My True Friend (Psalm 41)

Psalm 41:12
And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.

How many of us can relate with David's lamentations in Psalm 41? He did have reasons to, for he experienced betrayals and knew the attack of enemies.

Christ experienced same, the one He called disciple was to betray Him with a kiss, while the one He was to make commander denied Him thrice.

John 2:24-25
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all [men],
And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

We cannot do without people, we all need friends, people in the different aspects of our lives. However, we must know the one true friend:

John 15:15
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

He is the true friend, all He asks is that we dwell in obedience, for that is your part of the friendship. He paid the ultimate price.

John 15:13-14
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

We remember this great hymn by Johnson Oatman - 1895

There's not a Friend like the lowly Jesus:
No, not one! no, not one!
None else could heal all our souls' diseases:
No, not one! no, not one!

Jesus knows all about our struggles;
He will guide 'til the day is done:
There's not a Friend like the lowly Jesus:
No, not one! no, not one!

No friend like Him is so high and holy,
No, not one! no, not one!
And yet no friend is so meek and lowly,
No, not one! no, not one!

There's not an hour that He is not near us,
No, not one! no, not one!
No night so dark, but His love can cheer us,
No, not one! no, not one!

Did ever saint find this Friend forsake him?
No, not one! no, not one!
Or sinner find that He would not take him?
No, not one! no, not one!

Was e'er a gift like the Savior given?
No, not one! no, not one!
Will He refuse us a home in heaven?
No, not one! no, not one!

We know our best friend, don't you?

He calls us blessed.

Love
