EVIL MEN (Psalm 52)

Psalm 52:8
But I [am] like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

Saul was after David's life, what was David's offence? He was anointed king.

This Psalm was written by David when Doeg the Edomite informed  Saul that David went to see the High Priest Ahimelech this led Saul to order his men to kill Ahimelech and the other Levites with him. They refused, Ahimelech was the high priest of God. It was this same Doeg the Edomite that went ahead to kill the priest and eighty-four other priests.

1 Samuel 22:9-10,17-19
Then Doeg the Edomite, who was standing there with Saul’s men, spoke up. “When I was at Nob,” he said, “I saw the son of Jesse talking to the priest, Ahimelech son of Ahitub.
Ahimelech consulted the lord for him. Then he gave him food and the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”
And he ordered his bodyguards, “Kill these priests of the lord, for they are allies and conspirators with David! They knew he was running away from me, but they didn’t tell me!” But Saul’s men refused to kill the lord’s priests.
Then the king said to Doeg, “You do it.” So Doeg the Edomite turned on them and killed them that day, eighty-five priests in all, still wearing their priestly garments.
Then he went to Nob, the town of the priests, and killed the priests’ families—men and women, children and babies—and all the cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats.

We can see the wickedness and evil David was describing in this Psalm. Hatred, betrayal and evil is not new it has been there from time. However let us heed Christ's caution:

Matthew 18:7
Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

Yes people would always offend, causing pain and sorrow to others, however Christ counsels that we should never be the cause of those offences.

Psalm 52:1-4
Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God [endureth] continually.
Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
Thou lovest evil more than good; [and] lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
Thou lovest all devouring words, O [thou] deceitful tongue.

No believer should ever fit this description be you king, leader, employer, employee, parent, child or neighbour.

It sounds absurd, yet have we not seen people who claim to be believers and yet fit this profile?

Titus 2:14-15(NLT)
He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say.

The Lord keep us in righteousness and may we never be at the mercy of the unrighteous. We will not be the source of people's pain, neither will people succeed in bringing us pain.

The Doeg of todays shall be destroyed like that of old.

Psalm 52:5
God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of [thy] dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

For Christ came to destroy the evil works of the devil, thus anyone who walk in evil works is part of that destruction:

1John 3:8
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Glory to God, we are of light, our works are good. We will please God.

He calls us blessed.

Love
@the watcher.
