THE FEAR OF THE LORD
Proverbs 14:26
In the fear of the LORD [is] strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
The fear of the Lord is not just a sensational feeling towards a mighty God who will strike us down for one fault or the other.
No, it is a lifestyle patterned along the line of the Father's pleasure. If He is Lord, then we honour Him as Lord not just by words but by our lifestyle.
HOW CAN WE BE SAVED AND NOT HAVE THE FEAR OF THE LORD. It becomes and irony!!!
Acts 9:31
Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
Is it possible to be saved and not work in the fear of the Lord? YES. (We must beware), thinking they are in liberty, many could err, this is why Peter wrote:
1Peter 2:16-17
As free, and not using [your] liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
Honour all [men]. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
Through the scriptures we see examples of great men who lived with the fear of God. Their testimonies were great.
Genesis 39:9
[There is] none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou [art] his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
It was about the God factor, it was the God factor in Job that made God boast about Him.
One basic requirement for leadership is "the fear of the Lord".
Exodus 18:21
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place [such] over them, [to be] rulers of thousands, [and] rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
When we talk of the fear of the Lord sometimes it seems to some that it is a masculine attribute.
Deuteronomy 31:12
Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that [is] within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:
No, man, woman, child all are expected to have the fear the Lord. Parents and elders ought to teach the young ones the fear of the Lord.
Psalms 34:11
Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
We need to remember that the corruption of the world is not new, it had been before the revelation of Abraham, it was the reason for the flood and still after his time, we remember Sodom and Gomorrah. The only difference is that easy communication through technology has brought about great awareness and exposure to all.
In all, we cannot call Him Father and live as if we are not His children. Selah
It comprises all, our outside appearance, utterances, actions but most especially, what we allow to dwell in our hearts.
Ephesians 4:17
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
You cannot talk of holiness without the fear of God. What then are you talking about?
2 Corinthians 7:1
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
One glorious thing about living in the fear of God is that you then do not need to fear any other power, thing or person.
2Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Our goodly work with the brethren, colleagues, leaders, other authorities are all birthed from our fear of God.
Ephesians 5:21
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
One awesome thing about the fear of God, is the nature of God Himself - Love. How then would we not reference Him.
Now and even after this life, whether in eternal bliss or condemnation, the fear of God reigns.
Revelation 14:7
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Looking in the mirror this morning, let us ask, DO YOU HAVE THE FEAR OF GOD?
Praise to God creator of heaven and earth to Him be all glory, honour and praise. Halleluyah.
