THE JONA-FRIEND

Proverbs 18:24
A man [that hath] friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother.

One major truth about life is our need for others and also, other's need for us. It however goes extra when we call one a friend. We try to categorize the level of friendship depending on how much we want to trust, how much we want to reveal and also how much they have proved themselves.

I do not know if there still exists so strong a friendship like that of Jonathan to David?

1Samuel 18:1
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

1 Samuel 18:3-4(NLT)
And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself.
Jonathan sealed the pact by taking off his robe and giving it to David, together with his tunic, sword, bow, and belt.

He was supposed to be the stumbling block to Jonathan becoming king of Israel!

Do we really have true friends today? Who has brought you hurt, betrayed you or brought you to shame? Were they not once friends?

Man is powerful enough to determine the fate that he eventually lives with. Your closest friend should be your maker. Who has revealed Himself through His Son, the Messiah and has gone further to dwell in us in the Holy Spirit. It is wisdom to place Him first.

Yes The Lord must be our first point of call of friendship for if anyone else betrays or disappoints us He will not.

Psalms 91:1-2,9,14,16(NLT)
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
If you make the lord your refuge,     if you make the Most High your shelter,
The lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.
I will reward them with a long life     and give them my salvation.”

His assurances are better than any other. He also has more to offer, nothing you desire is away from Him, He has everything and can control all things.

The next closest friend ought to be your spouse. I do not know what state that relationship is? However if both spouses got it right, it ought to be right.

Then other relationships!

(We meet people everyday)

One cannot really say "this or that" is where our loyalty should lie, however the bible says:

2 Corinthians 6:14
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Proverbs 1:10&15
My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

In all let us remember:

Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.
A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

May we be found loyal and faithful. May we walk with all in wisdom.

We are blessed.
