Proverbs 23:6
Eat thou not the bread of [him that hath] an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:
We as humans were created to mingle with our type, we were made not to stay aloof, but to fellowship with one another.
As believers we are also encouraged to mingle with others with the brethren we are advised to have fellowship. With the world in general we also have an association. No one is an island we need one another to form institutions, communities, businesses and so on.
Yet we must be careful to what extend we associate and also to define our rules of engagement.
Most times we as believers falter because we get carried away by the display of wealth, power, ease of celebration and even display of wisdom. We should not forget:
2 Corinthians 6:14
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
We must know where to draw the line.
2Corinthians 6:17
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,
Not all that glitters is gold. Selah
Proverbs 23:7-8
For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart [is] not with thee.
The morsel [which] thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
It is with a sad heart that I write to say that there are some we call brethren who have allowed themselves fall into this category. However grace is available for the repentant heart to return and display the character of God. LOVE
Remember that offences do come but we must not be the cause:
Matthew 18:7
Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
Luke 17:1-2
Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe [unto him], through whom they come!
It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
We must be careful how we associate and how much we commit. I trust we have the Spirit. May we allow Him guide us aright.
We will not be heartbroken, we will not err, we will not fall into the trap of the enemy.
Even as we are cautious let us always be that loving brethren, a blessing to those who associate with us.
We are blessed.
