THE LORD ALMIGHTY GIVES VICTORY (Isaiah 36-37)
Isaiah 37:33
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
Yes he was a war lord with a great army, he had conquered many cities and laid them waste, Judah was small compared to the cities he had already captured. He was king Sennacherib of Assyria, he was conquering nations, he thought he could do it all by his might, however the book of Isaiah made us know that it was because God permitted him to.
Isaiah 37:26
Hast thou not heard long ago, [how] I have done it; [and] of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities [into] ruinous heaps.
Judah was different, they were the people of God and their king at that time worshipped God. The king of Assyria made the mistake of disrespecting God.
Isaiah 37:23
Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted [thy] voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? [even] against the Holy One of Israel.
The Lord does not forget His own, once your heart is set on Him.
Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee.
Yes Assyria was world power, yes he had a mighty army, yes he had conquered many cities but he would never had been this if the Lord did not permit him. Yes today we may see powers here and there seeming to thrive in their oppression but you who is of God is under a greater king, a greater authority.
John 19:11
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power [at all] against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
Woe unto him that fights against God's anointed, that threatens God's own people:
2 Corinthians 10:6
And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
Our duty is to ensure that our obedience is complete!!! selah.
Sennacherib was defeated, a single angel destroyed 185,000 soldier at a go, and the king thought he was safe in his land, his own sons killed him.
Isaiah 37:36-38
Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they [were] all dead corpses.
So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
WHO CAN BATTLE WITH THE LORD?
Romans 8:31
What shall we then say to these things? If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us?
As we continue in obedience, the Lord will keep us in perfect peace, all the evil plot of enemies will be pits dug for them to fall in.
We are blessed.
