EXPOSED! (Isaiah 39)
Isaiah 39:2
And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
King Hezekiah received an answer to His prayer to God for long life:
Isaiah 38:5
Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
We looked at long life in our previous study and we said we are not given long life to waste away time or to leave in pleasure alone. But every time we have is an investment, we rest that we may arise again and make impact.
Hezekiah was not an idle mind. No. Like most wise and great kings that lived in those times, he was an inventor:
2Kings 20:20
And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
However king of Judah, king Hezekiah made a mistake, when he received the king of Babylon, he exposed all his treasures!
Was he carried away by hero worship or fear, one really can't tell?
Thus we learn to be careful who we expose our treasures to, we should not get carried away, not all who laugh or seem to rejoice with us have good plans for our future.
Hezekiah also seem not to bother about the generations after:
2Kings 20:19
Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good [is] the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, [Is it] not [good], if peace and truth be in my days?
He was satisfied that things were okay in his life time, he was not bothered about his children! What a contrast to David!
No wonder his son who reigned after him did abominable things.
2Kings 20:21, 21:1,2&11
And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
Manasseh [was] twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name [was] Hephzibah.
And he did [that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, [and] hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which [were] before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols:
Most likely Hezekiah got his son at an older age since he was 12 years old when he began to reign, however from his actions we see that he was not brought up in the ways of the Lord.
We build empires and not just a temporary house! selah
Good parents build a generation that serve the Lord, it is not just about us, NO. We have to invest in our future generation. Not by acquiring and stacking wealth as our moral illiterate politicians have been doing but building up lives that will bring glory to God. We will be remembered here on earth as a great lineage and also God will take the glory.
Proverb 22:6&15
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Foolishness [is] bound in the heart of a child; [but] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
May we learn from our fathers of old and live a life that will bring glory to God. May we never be exposed to the enemy.
2Timothy 3:16 & 17
All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
