DON'T DWELL IN THE FORMER, FULFIL YOUR NEW (Isaiah 42 & 43)
Isaiah 42:9.
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
He is still the great God, the mighty one of Judah. Who chose Israel as His own, however they as a nation rebelled.
Isaiah 65:2
I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way [that was] not good, after their own thoughts;
However they still remain God's people and would be blessed still (the remnant)
Romans 11:1-5
I ask, then, has God rejected his own people, the nation of Israel? Of course not! I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham and a member of the tribe of Benjamin.
No, God has not rejected his own people, whom he chose from the very beginning. Do you realize what the Scriptures say about this? Elijah the prophet complained to God about the people of Israel and said,
“lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”
And do you remember God’s reply? He said, “No, I have 7,000 others who have never bowed down to Baal!”
[5]It is the same today, for a few of the people of Israel have remained faithful because of God’s grace—his undeserved kindness in choosing them.
To them was Christ revealed, but to the whole world he came to bring salvation.
Isaiah 42:6
I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
God kept telling them this but they were preoccupied seeking their own.
Isaiah 42:9
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Jesus said the first could be the last!
Matthew 20:16
“So those who are last now will be first then, and those who are first will be last.”
They wanted to live in past Glory which majorly was the work of their fathers in early times.
WHAT HAVE THEY PROVED, WHERE WAS THEIR OWN FAITHFULNESS!
So from generation to generation they weakened the passing down of the knowledge of God. What examples did they leave their children to learn from?
As we are instructed and rebuked from the errors of those before us, we also take caution not to live in the glory of our fathers but continue to live the faith that they lived.
Matthew 3:9-10
And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to [our] father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
We must arise and fulfil our own part, proving our faith in God.
Do your own work!
The Lord will help us.
We are blessed.
