FREE FROM MUNDANE PRACTICES (ISAIAH 1)
Isaiah 1:11
To what purpose [is] the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
Isaiah reigned through about four tenures of about four different kings of Judah, He was God's mouth piece to the people of Judah and Jerusalem. At that time many could only see within the activities that took place that led to the captivity of Judah, the exile to power nations and the destruction of Israel's city.
Isaiah 1:1
The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, [and] Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
It was of course far more than that the deliverance God sent Isaiah to prophesy about, it went beyond Israel to all men.
Deliverance was coming to the world. The shadow was to pass away, truth was to be revealed.
He revealed thus:
Isaiah 1:11-14
To what purpose [is] the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?
Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; [it is] iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear [them].
* the physical (animal and plant sacrifices)
* the blood of animals
* vain obligations
* incense (an abomination)
* moons
* sabbaths
* appointed meetings in Israel
Do we still have believers who have built their faith and doctrine around these things. They were a representation of what happens in the heavenly, a shadow of what was to be revealed, a sign!
What did God expect from us:
Isaiah 1:16-17
Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Could we live that holy life by our power. No!
So God said:
Isaiah 1:18
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
God revealed that man could not help Himself thus He would have to save man!
Titus 2:11-14
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Jesus was to be revealed, we were not to be trapped in mundane practices anymore, but that we will be freed to live in obedience to God who created us.
What mercy, what love!
May no one set us in bondage again.
May we enjoy the communion of the Father through His Son in the Holy Spirit. Pray brethren, worship, keep studying the word, dwell in His Spirit, we are free!
Glory to God.
We are the blessed.
