BEYOND THE SIGN (Isaiah 7)

Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Sometimes we could get too familiar with God and thus forget that we are working with the Alpha and Omega. He sees beyond our comprehension and He knows the end before the beginning.

In Isaiah chapter seven Syria joined forces with Ephraim and with the king of Israel to attack Judah and thus take over Jerusalem and install a new king that is, the son of Tabeal. King Ahaz ruled Judah at that time. The Lord sent prophet Isaiah to King Ahaz telling him not to fear:

Isaiah 7:7
Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

However we see that the Lord asked King Ahaz to ask for a sign, I love this man's answer, an answer of a man who had FAITH!

Isaiah 7:10-12
Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.

What a man of faith!

Let us see what Jesus answered men of unbelief when they asked for a sign.

Matthew 12:38-40
Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

The word had come yet we still desired a sign, it is an act of unbelief. This is the reason some who claim they believe patronize sorcerers, gimmick prophets and display ministers. The desire to see something now, was the temptation the enemy posed before Christ and still pose before us. However we must sharpen our faith in patience, we cannot afford to get carried away.

So we see the prophesy of Christ's coming to earth being proclaimed to King Ahaz as a sign:

Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

See also the sign Jesus said was to be shown to the Pharisees and Scribes: "the death and resurrection of Christ"

It goes beyond the vision, while they worried about the present situation, God was working out the more important situation: "the salvation of man".

The Lord sees beyond our worries, He handles them beyond the level of our reasoning that is why Paul prayed:

Ephesians 3:20
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

While we worry about the present, God has already taken care of the future. Glory to God!

Matthew 6:30-33
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more [clothe] you, O ye of little faith?
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Thus as we continue in prayer, let our faith be rest assured, it is more than a sign. The Lord is in control.

We are blessed.
