MY ENEMIES

Psalm 56 : 1 & 2
Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.
Mine enemies would daily swallow [me] up: for [they be] many that fight against me, O thou most High.

When we look at the concept "enemy" what comes to our mind most times is as a result of where we are coming from, that is,  what we have been exposed to and mostly what we have been told.

The dictionary defines enemy thus:

"Someone who is hostile to, feels hatred towards, opposes the interests of, or intends injury to someone else.
A hostile force or nation; a fighting member of such a force or nation. An alliance of such forces."

In Psalm 56, Davids talks of his enemies and very well so, he was a man anointed to be king but some did not want him to achieve this position, his enemies were  those from other countries but "worse of", he had enemies within Israel and within his own house!

Today the concept of enemies include those we have from our kindred, people who live around us, colleagues at work, school or in business, people who we interact with, those we account to, it could even be people who we employ, or work for us one way or the other.

For the believer we must first understand our true enemies and that the first is satan, the devil.

Matthew 13:39
The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

1 Peter 5:8 (NLT)
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

Revelation 12:9
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Yes the oldest enemy of man is satan the devil, he caused man's fall and is still the architect of man's destruction up till today. Many we call our enemy are mere tools in his hands.

Another important enemy is "death" :

1 Corinthians 15:26
The last enemy [that] shall be destroyed [is] death.

The saying goes that everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die: The truth: God never created man to die. Selah!

Genesis 3: 3 & 4
But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

So our first enemy led to another enemy - death!

Still again we still have another enemy: - our flesh and the world:

James 4:4
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Galatians 5:17
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

1Peter 2:11
 Dearly beloved, I beseech [you] as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

Thus these are the most important enemies of man.

Halleluyah Jesus the Christ has given us victory over them all:

Luke 10:19
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

1 Corinthians 15 : 54 & 55
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory?

Galatians 5:24
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

1John 5:4
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith.

So we see all our real enemies have been defeated. We already have the victory.

Thus when Jesus said:
Luke 6:27
But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

He had given us victory over all our true and powerful enemies. These ones who come our way day after day are nothing compared to the victory we already have, we don't have time to waste hating them. Our victory is already established. We should not loose so great a privilege to be God's own by falling to the foolishness of man.

Our true enemies have been defeated we live therefore in love not in hate. In wisdom and not in revenge in moving forward and not in un-forgiveness, we are true children of our Father.

Matthew 5:45
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Also remember:

Psalm 118:6
The LORD [is] on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

You already have the victory. Halleluyah!

Do have a lovely weekend. You are blessed.

Love
