WHEN YOU SPEAK
Colossians 4:6
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
Nothing pierces the heart with pain more than words. Some say it is better to be physically hit than to be smitten by words.
God expects us to be careful with our words. Do you know that power lies in our tongue and Jesus said we will account for every idle word we speak?
Matthew 12:36
"But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
Also we prophesy into our lives, when we speak we provoke angels and if we are careless other spirits into action by our words.
Matthew 12:37
"For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."
When we speak, what should be the outcome?
Our speech as believers should be to
* edify one another (improve one another)
* be the truth
* correct in love
* counsel and to teach
Titus 2:15
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
Ephesians 5:19
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord
Even the tone of your voice tells what kind of relationship exist. It is unlikely that you shout at one you have good relationship with. Shouting shows that the hearts are far apart from each other.
Our speaking is not for gossip, blackmail, to deform, lies or to cause pain.
The book of James tells us that the sign of true religion as a believer is our ability to tame the tongue it saves us from a lot of troubles and sorrow.
James 1:26
If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.
1Peter 3:10
For "He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile;
1Peter 2:1
Therefore, laying aside all malice, all guile, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,
James 1:19
Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
Psalms 34:13
Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking guile.
This week let us reflect on the use of our speaking. Let us learn from David, he was a man who found good use of his speaking. He learnt to allow his speaking give God glory. In doing this it will be difficult to speak guile from the same lips.
James 3:10
Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
* Remember that what you hear consistently dies inside you and begin to produce fruits . . . therefore be careful what and how you hear . . . then you will have the right things to speak.
I see you transformed in your speaking. Your words shall be as if God speaks.
Edifying, Correcting, Encouraging, Full of love and Glorifying God.
Do have an awesome week.(pray!!!)
